Job summary

Battlefield Equipment Rentals in Ajax, ON is seeking a Certified Small Engines Mechanic to maintain and repair our rental fleet. This full-time, permanent role offers competitive hourly pay and a supportive team environment.

You will diagnose and repair small engines, perform preventative maintenance, and work with cross-functional teams to ensure equipment is safe and reliable. Personal tools are required; on-site work in Ontario is expected.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on small engines experience.
• Experience with 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines.
• Ability to inspect and test various small engines and tools.
• Willing to complete Small Engines Certificate (MSTE).
• Customer service oriented and able to communicate clearly.
• Ability to work in a team and independently.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Pay: $24.00–$28.00 Hourly depending on experience.

As a key member of the Service team, the Small Engines Mechanic plays a vital role in keeping our rental fleet and customer equipment operating safely, reliably, and effectively.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Test, Diagnose and repair defective small engines on rental equipment.
• Diagnose, service, and maintain QA rental equipment.
• Diagnose and repair customer‑owned tools and equipment.
• Maintain and service equipment according to manufacturers specifications.
• Perform preventative maintenance on both fleet and customer equipment.
• Maintain and service small‑engine‑related equipment.
• Load and unload customer rental equipment and clearly explain operating instructions as required.
• Maintain the yard and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
• Support branch operations by performing additional duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

• Mechanical Experience: Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic and repair skills with 3+ years of hands‑on experience as a Small Engines Technician or similar role with experience working on 2‑stroke gas engines, 4‑stroke gas engines, small electrical tools.Ability to inspect and test various small engines and tools including Seasonal equipment: Lawnmowers, Trimmers, Chainsaws, Pumps, Compaction, Small Generators, Electric, Battery and pneumatic powered tools.
• Experience with seasonal equipment: Lawnmowers, Trimmers, Chainsaws, Pumps, Compaction, Small Generators, Electrical, Battery and pneumatic tooling considered an asset.
• Ideal candidate is looking to gain experience and complete Small Engines Certificate (MSTE)
• Customer Service Oriented: Excellent communication skills and a knack for making customers feel valued.
• Team Player: Ability to work effectively within a team environment with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision.
• Independent Worker: Ability to work independently with excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Endurance: Ability to perform heavy lifting regularly up to 50lbs.
• Safety Focused: A strong commitment to safe work practices, environmental responsibility, and Battlefield’s health and safety policies.
• A technical understanding of CAT equipment would be considered an asset.
