Battlefield Equipment Rentals in Cambridge, ON is seeking a skilled Small Engines Technician to diagnose, repair, and service a broad range of engines and equipment. You’ll perform preventative maintenance, support on-call needs, and ensure customers’ tools and rental gear operate safely and reliably.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of hands-on experience with small engines, 2-stroke and 4-stroke gas engines, construction heaters, forklifts, aerial lifts, and Stihl products, plus strong safety

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on experience as a Small Engines Technician or similar role.
• Experience with 2-stroke and 4-stroke gas engines, construction heaters (propane and natural gas), small electrical tools, forklifts, aerial lifts and Stihl products.
• Licensed Small Engine Technician preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair defective small engines on rental equipment.
• Diagnose, service, and maintain QA rental equipment.
• Diagnose and repair customer-owned tools and equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance on fleet and customer equipment.
• Load and unload customer rental equipment and explain operating instructions.
• Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely repairs and service delivery.

Location: Cambridge, ON
Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Pay: $22.00-24.00 hourly, depending on experience

As a key member of the Service team, the Small Engines Technician plays a vital role in keeping our rental fleet and customer equipment operating safely, reliably, and effectively.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Diagnose and repair defective small engines on rental equipment.
• Diagnose, service, and maintain QA rental equipment.
• Diagnose and repair customer-owned tools and equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance on both fleet and customer equipment.
• Maintain and service small-engine-related equipment.
• Load and unload customer rental equipment and clearly explain operating instructions as required.
• Maintain the yard and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
• Support branch operations by performing additional duties as assigned.
• Work cross-functionally with other departments to ensure timely repairs and service delivery
• Collaborate seamlessly with your colleagues to create a supportive and efficient work environment.
• Follow all workplace safety protocols and environmentally sound practices, making sure everyone stays safe.

What We're Looking For

• Mechanical Experience: Strong troubleshooting and repair skills with 3+ years of hands‑on experience as a Small Engines Technician or similar role with experience working on 2-stroke and 4-stroke gas engines, construction heaters (propane and natural gas), small electrical tools, forklifts, aerial lifts and Stihl products.
• Customer Service Oriented: Excellent communication skills and a knack for making customers feel valued.
• Team Player: Ability to work effectively within a team environment with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision.
• Independent Worker: Ability to work independently with excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Endurance: Ability to perform heavy lifting regularly up to 50lbs.
• Safety Focused: A strong commitment to safe work practices, environmental responsibility, and Battlefield’s health and safety policies.
• A technical understanding of CAT equipment would be considered an asset.
• A Licensed Small Engine Technician (Preferred)
• Flexibility to support on‑call schedules and adapt to business demands.
• Hydraulic system knowledge
• Ownership of personal tools is required for the role.
