Job summary

Battlefield Equipment Rentals in Brantford, ON is seeking a skilled Mechanic Shop Unlicensed to keep our fleet running safely and reliably. This full-time, permanent role offers hands-on work, diagnostic duties, and direct contribution to customer service and uptime across our rental fleet.

You’ll work in a fast-paced, team-based shop, perform repairs, estimate costs, maintain tools and reports, and support branch operations with safety and quality at the forefront.

Qualifications

• Heavy Equipment Mechanic with diagnostic and failure analysis skills.
• Experience repairing and maintaining construction equipment including Genie, Skyjack, and CAT.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team and adapt to a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workstation.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and estimate repair costs.
• Inspect rental equipment to ensure proper operation and identify faults.
• Repair or replace defective parts using hand and power tools.
• Test repaired equipment for performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
• Complete service reports and related documentation accurately.
• Support branch operations by performing additional duties as assigned by the Branch and Service Managers.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure timely repairs and service delivery.

Pay: $28.00–$32.00 hourly, depending on experience

As a key member of the Service team, the Mechanic Shop Unlicensed plays a vital role in keeping our rental fleet and customer equipment operating safely, reliably, and effectively.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workstation.


• Troubleshoot equipment issues and accurately estimate repair costs.


• Inspect rental equipment to ensure proper operation and identify faults or potential failures.


• Adjust, repair, or replace defective parts, components, and systems using hand and power tools.


• Test repaired equipment to confirm proper performance and manufacturer specifications compliance.


• Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with company and factory standards.


• Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance on construction equipment.


• Service attachments and related working tools.


• Order parts as required to complete repairs efficiently.


• Complete service reports and related documentation accurately.


• Support branch operations by performing additional duties as assigned by the Branch and Service Managers.


• Work cross-functionally with other departments to ensure timely repairs and service delivery


• Collaborate seamlessly with your colleagues to create a supportive and efficient work environment.


• Follow all workplace safety protocols and environmentally sound practices, making sure everyone stays safe.

What We're Looking For

• Mechanical Experience: An experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic or a 3rd/4th year apprentice with strong diagnostic and failure analysis skills. Hands-on experience repairing and maintaining a wide range of construction equipment including Genie, Skyjack and CAT.


• Customer Service Oriented: Excellent communication skills and a knack for making customers feel valued.


• Computer Skills: Strong computer skills and familiarity with CAT systems (ET and SIS would be considered an asset).


• Team Player: Ability to work effectively within a team environment with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision.


• Independent Worker: Ability to work independently with excellent time management and organizational skills.


• Endurance: Ability to perform heavy lifting regularly up to 50lbs.


• Safety Focused: A strong commitment to safe work practices, environmental responsibility, and Battlefield’s health and safety policies.


• A technical understanding of CAT equipment would be considered an asset.


• Flexibility to support on-call schedules and adapt to business demands.
