Job summary

Verve Senior Living is seeking a dedicated Cook to prepare fresh meals and present appetizing plates for residents and guests. Under the Dining Services Manager, you will ensure nutrition, quality, and safety while maintaining a clean kitchen and collaborating with staff.

You will use your knife and cooking skills, follow standardized menus, and assist in training junior staff. This role requires strong English communication and ability to work in a fast-paced environment at our Ontario

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education required.
• 2+ years’ experience in large volume cooking, preparation, and plating.
• Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program; Red Seal certificate; regional food handler’s certificate.
• Must communicate effectively in English.
• Familiar with computerized online ordering systems.
• Strong knife and preparation skills; basic baking skills.
• Dependable, team player, able to work independently.
• Capable of working in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Cook and prepare food for residents and guests and plate meals per sanitation and safety regulations.
• Direct and train staff; supervise in Dining Services Manager’s absence.
• Follow infection control processes and outbreak management.
• Receive and store orders; inventory control of ingredients.
• Assist in purchasing food and supplies for the department.
• Forecast production and manage leftovers; maintain portion control.
• Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment.
• Complete food temperature checks and documentation.
• Prepare snack trays for daily functions.
• Maintain effective communication with residents, staff, and coworkers.
