Job summary

Verve Senior Living is seeking a dedicated cook to prepare and plate nutritious meals for residents at a retirement residence in Toronto. You will work under the Dining Services Manager, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation while adhering to menus and dietary guidelines.

This role requires at least grade 12 education, 2 years of large-volume cooking experience, a valid Safe Food Handler certificate, and strong English communication.

Qualifications

• Minimum of grade 12 education required.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in large-volume cooking, preparation, and plating techniques.
• Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program is preferred.
• Must have a valid regional safe food handler’s certificate.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal).
• Strong knife and preparation skills as well as fundamental baking skills.
• Dependable, responsible and able to work in a team environment and independently.

Responsibilities

• Participates in continuous quality improvement standards.
• Cooks and plates meals for residents adhering to sanitation, safety, and nutrition guidelines.
• Receives and stores orders; manages ingredient inventory to ensure availability.
• Forecasts food production needs and plans to minimize waste; maintains portion control.
• Keeps kitchen and equipment clean; follows infection control procedures.
• Performs temperature checks and documents results.
• Prepares snack trays for daily functions.
• Communicates with staff, residents, and guests and addresses concerns.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Dining Services Manager.
• Complies with all corporate policies and mandatory training.
