University Otolaryngologists is seeking a motivated Certified Medical Assistant to join the Oral Pathology team. The ideal candidate will handle administrative and clinical duties, assist with procedures, manage patient records, and communicate biopsy results with empathy.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a medical office environment.
  • Dental office experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of GE-Centricity practice management software and EHR beneficial.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Able to operate a computer and basic office equipment.
  • Experience with a multi-line telephone system.
  • Must know sterile technique and infection control guidelines.
  • Compliant with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain exam rooms, procedure rooms, and instrument processing areas.
  • Sterilize instruments and restock supplies.
  • Instruct patients on preparation for tests and procedures.
  • Communicate biopsy results clearly and empathetically.
  • Assist physician with procedures and document surgical notes.
  • Record vital signs and patient history.
  • Assist with patient calls and prescription requests.
  • Greet patients and guide them to clinical areas.
  • Manage EHR desktop alerts and patient discharge education.
  • Support other clinical team members as needed.

Description

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Certified Medical Assistants to join our Oral Pathology team. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care. This position requires a combination of administrative and clinical duties, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow in our clinic. You will assist with procedures, manage patient records and provide patients with information on procedures, post-care instructions and biopsy results.

Work Hours:

Mon-Fri | 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Occasional overtime required.

Work Location:

Westerville (Cooper Road)

Essential Functions:
  • Maintain general appearance, cleanliness and stock in examination rooms, procedure rooms, and instrument processing room.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments and examination rooms according to infection control protocols, restock supplies and prepare rooms for a safe, clean and organized environment.
  • Instruct Patients regarding appropriate preparation for certain diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Emphatically and professionally communicate biopsy results to patients, providing a clear explanation of findings and recommended treatment plans. Listen to concerns while offering emotional support to educate the patient on their condition.
  • Aid physician in scalpel biopsies and CO2 laser ablation by means of preparing procedural trays and assisting with oral retraction as indicated, following with precise documentation of treatment site(s) and surgical narrative(s).
  • Takes baseline vital signs and patient history.
  • Evaluates new patient charts prepared by front desk.
  • Answer incoming phone calls. Assist in patient call backs and calls in prescriptions under the direction of the RN/MD.
  • Professionally greets all patients and escorts them to clinical areas.
  • Manages EHR desktop and alerts/flags.
  • Provides discharge instruction/education to patients. Reviews handouts with patients.
  • Assists other members of the clinical team with all patient care activities.

Requirements
Skills/Experience:
  • Qualified Applicant should have at least 1 year experience in a medical office environment.
  • Dental office experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of GE-Centricity practice management software and EHR beneficial but not required.
