Job summary

Westbank First Nation, located in the Okanagan Valley, seeks an experienced Certified Education Assistant to support students under supervision of Learning Support and teaching staff at Sensisyusten School. The role focuses on helping students with diverse needs through individualized and group activities.

The candidate should hold a valid certificate (CEA or BC Teaching), have at least two years of relevant experience, and pass required checks.

Qualifications

  • Certified Education Assistant certificate or BC Teaching certificate
  • Experience working with school-aged children (minimum two years)
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Valid First Aid Certification with CPR Level B or C endorsement
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development and delivery of individual educational program goals and strategies
  • Assist classroom teachers with education and training of students with special needs (one-to-one, small group, or whole class)
  • Maintain records and progress reports of students’ IEP and IBP
  • Help present a safe learning classroom environment
  • Supervise students during classroom periods, breaks, PE, field trips, etc.
  • Modify and prepare specialized teaching aids and materials
  • Cooperate with principal and staff in team settings
  • Maintain confidentiality as required by policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal of Sensisyusten School

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Learning Support Teacher/Supervisor, and the guidance of the classroom and learning assistance teachers, the Certified Education Assistant provides assistance to students.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Certified Education Assistant certificate or BC Teaching certificate
  • Experience working with school-aged children (minimum two years, desirable)
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid First Aid Certification with CPR Level B or C endorsement
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search with results acceptable to WFN
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License preferred
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation
JOB DUTIES/RESPONIBILITIES
  • Assists in the preparation and delivery of individual educational program goals and strategies
  • Assists classroom teachers in the education and/or training of students with special needs including learning, emotional, and/or physical challenges on a one-to-one basis, in small groups, or with the whole class
  • Assists teachers in maintaining records and progress reports of students’ IEP and IBP
  • Assists teachers to present a safe learning classroom environment
  • Assists in the supervision of students during classroom periods, playground sessions, lunch breaks, physical education/gym sessions, field trips, etc., as required
  • Modifies and prepares specialized teaching aids and materials for students under the direction of the teacher
  • Cooperates in team building and team work with the principal and other staff
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the School policies, standards, governing regulations and procedures, as directed by the Principal of Sensisyusten School
  • Maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation and the School
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position and as assigned by the Principal of Sensisyusten School
