Job summary

Toronto Hydro is seeking a Category Analyst to provide analytical support for category management and strategic sourcing. The role partners with Supply Chain specialists and stakeholders to leverage spend, pricing, and market intelligence to drive value and mitigate risk.

The incumbent will build dashboards and scorecards to translate complex data into actionable insights and support data-driven sourcing decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Economics, Analytics, or related field.
• 5+ years in supply chain, procurement, or related area.
• SCMP/CSCP/CPIM or similar designation is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to translate data into insights.
• Experience with market intelligence, cost modelling, benchmarking.

Responsibilities

• Conduct spend, pricing, and cost analyses using supplier, market, and internal data to identify savings opportunities.
• Develop cost models, benchmarking analyses, variance reviews, and should-cost assessments to support sourcing strategies.
• Research market conditions, supplier landscapes, industry trends, and key cost drivers to provide actionable insights.
• Assess supplier risks and provide recommendations that support sourcing decisions and continuity.
• Analyze RFx responses, supplier proposals, and pricing submissions to facilitate objective selection.
• Analyze supplier performance data and scorecards to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations translating data into actionable insights for stakeholders.
• Monitor performance metrics and drive supplier improvement initiatives.

Expected Salary Range: $90810 - $113512 Annually

Target Variable Performance Pay: 8%

The salary range shown above reflects the expected compensation for this position. The final salary offered will be determined based on a holistic assessment of the candidate’s experience, education, training, and alignment with the role’s requirements. For positions covered by a collective agreement, placement within the range will follow the applicable step or classification.

Reporting to the Manager, Supply Chain, the Category Analyst provides analytical expertise that supports category management, strategic sourcing, supplier performance management, and commercial decision-making across the organization. Acting as a trusted business partner to Supply Chain Specialists and stakeholders, the incumbent leverages spend, pricing, supplier, performance, and market intelligence to generate actionable recommendations that identify value opportunities, optimize supplier base, mitigate risk, and strengthen category strategies.

Through advanced analytics, reporting, market insights, and continuous improvement initiatives, this role enables data-driven sourcing decisions, enhances supply chain performance, and supports the achievement of organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed spend, pricing, and cost analyses using supplier, market, and internal data to identify savings opportunities, cost drivers, risks, and value optimization initiatives.
• Develop cost models, benchmarking analyses, variance reviews, and should-cost assessments to support sourcing strategies, negotiations, and commercial decision-making.
• Research and evaluate market conditions, supplier landscapes, industry trends, economic factors, and key cost drivers to provide actionable market intelligence and sourcing insights.
• Assess supply market, pricing, and supplier risks, and provide recommendations that support sourcing decisions, business continuity, and category resilience.
• Support sourcing and category management activities by analyzing RFx responses, supplier proposals, pricing submissions, and scenario-based evaluations to facilitate objective supplier selection and sourcing decisions.
• Analyze supplier performance data, scorecards, and service metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, and support supplier performance improvement initiatives.
• Partner with internal business stakeholders, Supply Chain Specialists, and cross-functional teams to understand business requirements, provide analytical recommendations, and support category and sourcing strategies.
• Develop dashboards, reports, scorecards, and visualizations that translate complex data into meaningful and actionable insights for Supply Chain and business stakeholders.
• Monitor supplier, category, and sourcing performance metrics, identify trends and opportunities, and support initiatives that improve supplier performance and overall supply chain effectiveness.
• Continuously improve analytical tools, reporting processes, data quality, and methodologies while ensuring adherence to organizational policies, governance standards, and procurement best practices.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Economics, Analytics, or a related discipline.
• Five (5) or more years of experience in supply chain, procurement, category management, operations, business analysis, or a related field.
• SCMP, NISCL-CSCL, MCIPS, APICS, PMP or equivalent professional designation is considered an asset.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret large, complex data sets and translate findings into actionable business insights.
• Strong experience gathering market intelligence and leveraging insights to develop should-cost models, cost analyses, and benchmarking assessments.
• Experience conducting spend analysis, cost modelling, supplier evaluations, risk assessments, and performance reporting.
• Advanced proficiency in using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to streamline analysis and process.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications; SAP or ERP system experience is preferred.
• Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is considered an asset.
• Working knowledge of strategic sourcing, category management, supplier performance management, and procurement processes.
• Demonstrated business and financial acumen, with the ability to connect analytical findings to commercial, operational, and strategic outcomes.
• Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decisions through clear, data-driven recommendations.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain a high degree of accuracy, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in a collaborative environment.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.

This position is based in a hybrid environment allowing for remote work two days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite Tuesday to Thursday. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
