The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company is seeking a Catastrophe Claims Representative Level I to support loss to resolution for property claims arising from catastrophes, natural disasters, and weather events. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement (in-office part-time or remote) across Calgary, Winnipeg, and Edmonton, with travel for catastrophe deployments as needed.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing CIP designation and licensed adjuster where required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with empathy.
  • Ability to investigate, analyze, and document losses.
  • Team player with strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with estimating tools and property damage estimates.
  • Willing to travel for CAT deployments.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

The salary offered is estimated to be within the following range: $52,000 - $62,000. Candidates with salary expectations outside of the range are still encouraged to apply.

Job Overview

The Catastrophe Claims Representative Level I supports Wawanesa’s goal of delivering an exceptional, consistent claims experience by fairly and equitably adjusting small to moderate complexity property claims arising from catastrophes, natural disasters, and weather events. In this role, you’ll apply and explain policy coverages, investigate and document losses, and manage a high-volume pending from first notice of loss through resolution.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support policyholders from first notice of loss through resolution with timely, empathetic service and clear communication.
  • Interpret policy, confirm coverage, and set accurate loss and expense reserves.
  • Investigate losses, assess liability (where applicable), document findings, and es- calate or refer files when needed.
  • Coordinate vendors and service providers, reconciling inputs from appraisers, TPAs, contractors, and repair facilities to accurately quantify losses.
  • Negotiates and communicate fair settlements within assigned authority.
  • Review repair estimates and grow your estimating capability (scopes and estimating software).
  • Keep claim files audit-ready with accurate notes, diaries, and system documentation.
  • Manage high-volume intake and inventory by prioritizing effectively and staying organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work within adjusting guidelines and company procedures while staying current on regulatory/licensing requirements and product/industry updates.
  • Travel on short notice for catastrophe deployments (including extended stays) and jump in to support non-CAT claims when needed.
  • Take on other duties, as assigned, to support the team.
Qualifications
  • Working toward a CIP designation and meeting adjuster licensing requirements.
  • Demonstrated customer service with empathy, professionalism, and strong written/verbal communication.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills with sound judgment.
  • Collaborative team player who builds effective working relationships.
  • Comfortable navigating conflict and difficult conversations; confident negotiator.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; able to manage high claim volume and accurate documentation.
  • Ability to interpret property damage estimates; comfortable with estimating tools.
  • Self-driven with a commitment to continuous learning and development.
  • Post‑secondary education preferred or equivalent experience.
