Job summary

Connective Support Society is seeking a Residence Support Worker in Vancouver to help residents access services, build life skills, and work toward greater independence. You will support emotional, behavioral, social, and medical needs while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

The role involves shifts including mornings, evenings, and overnights, with a casual and full-time track. A Diploma in relevant fields and a BC driver's license are required.

Qualifications

  • Must have valid BC Class 5 driver's license.
  • Experience with high-risk individuals with complex behavioral needs.
  • Ability to respond efficiently in crisis situations.
  • Diploma in behavioral sciences, social work, human services, psychology, or child & youth care.
  • Ability to deescalate challenging behaviors and follow safety plans.
  • Experience providing trauma-informed support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide input to care plans to help residents achieve objectives.
  • Act as a positive role model, offering emotional support and behavior management.
  • Identify services in the community to meet residents' needs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team for treatment plans.
  • Monitor facility operations including cleaning, maintenance, inventory and food services.

Job description

ROLE PURPOSE

In this role, you will build relationships with individuals and assist them to achieve their goals as well as ensuring that the client’s emotional/behavior, social, physical, and medical needs are met.

Our Community Inclusion programs help individuals access services and build community connections, while supporting them to develop life skills. We work one-on-one with service users to encourage them to identify, work toward, and achieve their goals so they can build greater independence and more active community engagement. Community-based outreach supports may include employment, housing, building healthy relationships and pursuing social/recreational opportunities.

HOURS

Mornings (08:00 – 16:00)
Evenings (16:00 – 00:00)
Overnights (00:00 – 08:00)

  • Casual employees must be available for at least 21 shifts per month in which 7 are overnight shifts.
  • If you are working full-time, or if you are a full-time student, we ask you for 15 shifts of availability per month in which five are overnight shifts (this is subject to employer or enrollment proof).
  • These positions require the ability to work flexible hours during the daytime, evenings, and weekends based on operational needs.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

As a Residence Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:

  • Provides input to the Program Manager and/or other staff regarding the development of appropriate care plans to achieve residents’ objectives
  • Acts as a positive role model for residents, providing emotional support, behavior management, and supporting individuals in achieving goals
  • Identifies social, economic, recreational, employment, and educational services in the community that will meet the needs of each client
  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team and consults with team psychologist and psychiatrists to develop, implement, maintain, and adjust individualized treatment plans
  • Working with other residence staff, monitors and ensures effective operation of the facility including quality control concerning cleaning equipment, indoor and outdoor maintenance, inventory, and food services
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENRS

We seek candidates who meet the following qualifications and requirements:

  • BC Valid class 5 driver’s license (Must be able to drive multiple clients)
  • Experience working with high-risk individuals with multiple diagnoses such as autism spectrum disorders, FASD, ADHD, trauma and complex behavioral challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to respond efficiently in crisis and escalated situations
  • Diploma, preferably in behavioral sciences, social work, human services, psychology, child & youth care
  • Ability to follow safety and behavioral support plans to calmly and effectively deescalate clients who are facing challenging behaviors and high escalations
  • Experience providing trauma-informed support to clients in challenging environments
  • Ability to work in a team environment where communication and consistency is key
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate (please refer to Certificates accepted in B.C. - WorkSafe)
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records/MCDF Clearence Check and reference checks
COMPENSATION

As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $25.95 per hour plus 10.6% in lieu of vacation pay and benefits (for casual positions). The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $29.76 per hour.
