Housekeeping/Laundry/Janitor (Casual) – Extendicare Michener Hill, Red Deer

Candidates are invited to apply for the position of Housekeeping Aide at our 220-bed Long Term and 60-bed Supportive Living facility, Extendicare Michener Hill, located in Red Deer, Alberta.

Reporting to the Environmental Services Manager, the Housekeeping/Laundry/Janitor staff maintains high standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the home by cleaning and sanitizing rooms and furnishings in assigned work areas following established policies and procedures. Ensure residents’ safety by adhering to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

1. Receive assignments from Supervisor.
2. Perform cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting floors, spot cleaning walls, windows, and doors, dusting, waste removal, and rearranging furniture. Also includes laundry processing and deep cleaning duties.
3. Ensure residents’ privacy during duties.
4. Follow company policies on quality assurance, fire, and safety.
5. Participate in department meetings, attend training, and complete required education programs.
6. Assist other departments with moving and storing supplies, furniture, and equipment.
7. Receive training in housekeeping, laundry, and janitorial duties.
8. Work shifts including days, weekends, and evenings.

Ability To

1. Read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
2. Demonstrate mechanical aptitude.
3. Perform physical duties required for the role.
4. Work independently and collaboratively within a team.
5. Work safely following established safety practices and procedures.
6. Possess knowledge of infection control, chemical use, cleaning procedures, and operation of cleaning machines.

Qualifications

1. Experience in maintaining cleanliness and disinfecting surfaces per policies and health directives.
2. Previous cleaning experience and knowledge of floor care machines preferred.
3. Understanding of the Health and Safety Act.
4. Excellent attendance and punctuality.
5. Vulnerable Sector check required.
6. Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs), reach, squat, kneel, and climb ladders.
7. Proficiency in English communication and understanding instructions.
8. Ability to work safely and independently or as part of a team.
9. Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
