Job summary

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) invites applications for a Casual Educational Assistant to support students with diverse needs within both regular and special education settings. A Diploma as an Educational Assistant is required, with training in BMS/NVCI, ASD, assistive tech, sign language, First Aid and CPR preferred.

Qualifications

• Diploma as an Educational Assistant.
• Training in one or more of the following areas: Behaviour Management Systems (BMS)/Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), assistive technology, sign language, First Aid and CPR.
• Cultural and ability sensitivity, related experience supporting individuals with special needs.
• The ability to perform physical tasks including dressing, feeding, lifting/re-positioning, transfers, toileting, and diapering.
• The ability to start work immediately.

Responsibilities

• Provide a range of supportive interventions for students who exhibit self-regulation, social, emotional, physical, and/or medical needs.
• Support and collaborate with the teacher to meet the needs of students, primarily those with special in regular and special education classes.
• Assist on a regular basis with hygiene, including toileting, diapering, and dressing.
• Lift and reposition students (as trained by therapists).
• Follow the guidelines of student accommodation and support plans.
• Participate in all legislative professional development and other PD identified by HWDSB.
