Job description

HAIDA GWAII BOARD OF EDUCATION SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 50

CASUAL CUSTODIAN

Gid Galang Kuuya Naay Secondary, S'k'aadgaa Naay Elementary, Daa x'iigan S'k'adáa Née K-12 Schools

START DATE: Effective as soon as possible

SALARY: $29.56 per hour, plus a shift premium of $1.00 when applicable

The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness, security, and energy conservation of the building to which assigned. Receives direction from the Working Foreman and is required from time-to-time to carry out requests of the School Staff.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 level of education is required.
  • Previous training and/or experience in janitorial procedures would be an asset or the willingness to learn and maintain safe and proper cleaning techniques.
  • Maintain familiarity with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and WorkSafe BC (WSBC) safety regulations.
  • Possess the ability to read and comprehend written instructions and safety warnings of the products the employee uses and use such products safely.
  • Possess mechanical aptitude to operate janitorial equipment used within the facility, including proper use and care.
  • Possess the ability to meet and deal tactfully with students, members of staff, and the public.
  • The position requires the capability to perform tasks such as lifting, pushing, holding, reaching, bending, and carrying.
  • Primarily indoors but occasionally requires going outside and may involve unpleasant tasks due to the nature of the work.
  • Must be able to work alone but be cooperative with peers when major tasks are encountered.
  • Willingness to obtain WorkSafe BC Level I First Aid if requested.
