Job summary

Extendicare is hiring a Cook on a casual basis for morning shifts (6am–2:15pm) with weekend coverage. The role focuses on cooking per menu, overseeing kitchen operations, and substituting for staff when needed, under the Food Service Manager guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the therapeutic menu plan for diet and texture requirements.
  • Prepare lunch and dinner entrees and nourish items according to Extendicare, Public Health and Canada’s Food Guide standards.
  • Prepare items for distribution to dining areas with temperature and quality control.
  • Provide guidance to others; direct dietary aides in basic food prep/service standards.
  • Ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operation.
  • Maintain kitchen sanitation at all times.
  • Ensure food quality and storage standards are met.
  • Post daily menu as required.
  • Keep work area clean and ensure staff follow proper food safety procedures.

Job description

Job Description Title of position: Cook- Casual Morning Shift 6am to 2.15pm and 9:45am to 6:00 pm with weekends- Effective data: ASAP

This position reports to the Food Service Manager and primarily involves performing the duties outlined in the Cook Job Description. As a fill-in, the focus will be on cooking food according to the menu, including special diets. Additionally, this role includes overseeing the kitchen, which may involve substituting for staff and performing other tasks as assigned by the Food Service Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Red Seal Certificate Preferred or work experience equivalent.
  • Food Service experience is an asset.
  • Minimum 2-year Food Safety Course certificate with Sanitation Focus.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Be an active listener who projects a friendly, problem-solving approach and demeanor.
  • Super organizing, planning, prioritizing, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Proven experience in taking personal responsibility for seeking information from various sources enables others' learning through sharing experiences, coaching and mentoring.
  • Works independently as well as collaboratively within the team.
  • Excellent attendance required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Following the therapeutic menu plan for diet and texture requirements
  • Preparing entrees for lunch and dinner and preparing items for nourishments according to standards set by Extendicare, Public Health and Canada’s Food Guide
  • Preparing food items for distribution to dining areas while ensuring temperature and quality control
  • Provide assistance and guidance to others as required- directs dietary aides in basic food preparation/ service standards
  • To ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen
  • Always keep aware of kitchen sanitation.
  • Ensure that food is of correct quality and standard upon delivery and in storage
  • Daily menu is posted as required
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure staff are compliant with proper food safe procedures
