  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Education or training in early childhood development, childcare, child and youth care, education, or a related field is an asset.
  • Experience caring for children in a family, school, childcare, recreation, cultural, or community program setting is preferred.
  • Experience working in a First Nation, community-based, social service, family support, or non-profit setting is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive supervision to children during programs, activities, family sessions, and events.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, welcoming, and age-appropriate environment.
  • Support culturally grounded programming by encouraging respect for Bearspaw First Nation values, language, family connections, community traditions, and guidance from Elders or Knowledge Keepers when applicable.
  • Communicate respectfully with parents and caregivers.
  • Support smooth child drop-off and pick-up.
  • Help children feel comfortable while families access programming and services.
  • Maintain attendance records, incident reports, supply lists, and other documentation as required.
  • Report safety concerns or child-related concerns to the supervisor promptly.
  • Assist with snack preparation, cleaning play areas, organizing supplies, and following health and safety procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with program staff to support children and families.
  • Clear Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, and Intervention Record Check upon commencement of employment.

JOB SUMMARY

The Childcare Worker supports children and families participating in Bearspaw Family Programs by providing safe, nurturing, culturally respectful, and developmentally appropriate care. This role assists with creating a welcoming environment where children feel supported, supervised, and encouraged while parents, caregivers, and families access prevention programming and family supports.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Childcare Worker works collaboratively with program staff to support children’s emotional, social, physical, cultural, and developmental needs while maintaining safety, confidentiality, and respectful communication with families and community members. The position provides attentive child supervision, assists with child-friendly and culturally grounded activities, communicates respectfully with families, maintains required documentation, and supports a safe, clean, and welcoming program environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Child Supervision and Safety
  • Provide attentive supervision to children during programs, activities, family sessions, and events.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Education or training in early childhood development, childcare, child and youth care, education, or a related field is an asset.
  • Experience caring for children in a family, school, childcare, recreation, cultural, or community program setting is preferred.
  • Experience working in a First Nation, community-based, social service, family support, or non-profit setting is an asset.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of Bearspaw First Nation culture, traditions, community priorities, and respectful service delivery.
  • Ability to provide safe, patient, compassionate, and consistent care for children of varying ages and needs.
  • Strong communication skills with children, parents, caregivers, staff, and community members.
  • Ability to support play-based, creative, cultural, and developmental activities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use good judgment when working with children and families.
  • Strong observation skills and ability to identify and report safety concerns promptly.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a busy program environment.
  • Reliable, punctual, organized, and able to follow program routines and procedures.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification is an asset or willingness to obtain.
  • Willingness to learn organizational systems, program requirements, and culturally grounded approaches to family support.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
  • Clear Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search, and Intervention Record Check uponcommencement of employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Position Type: Casual.
  • Casual hours are required to support program needs, including occasional evening or weekend programming.
  • The position involves regular interaction with children, families, caregivers, program staff, and community members.
