Job summary

John Howard Society of Saskatchewan is seeking a Caseworker for the Community Outreach program. Under supervision, you will assist in case management and service delivery, including supervision of participants and crisis support.

Qualifications

• Secondary education with a relevant degree or equivalent experience in social services.
• Experience working with individuals affected by homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty or child welfare.
• Strong written and verbal communication and solid case management skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver client-oriented programming focusing on life skills and wellbeing.
• Provide intensive case management using a client-centred, risk-reductive approach.

About the role

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, or designate, the Caseworker will assist in case management, service delivery, supervision of participants.

What you'll do

Caseworker duties include the following responsibilities:

• Deliver client-oriented programming with a focus on life skill building, emotional regulation and general wellness.
• Provide intensive case management using a client centred approach that is risk reductive and supportive at the client level
• Connect participants to community supports.
• Provide stabilization and crisis support.
• Provide incidental problem solving and emotional support during crisis situations.
• Provide accurate written documentation.
• Role model positive behaviour and encourage and assist participants to practice self-help and non-violent problem-solving skills.
• Provide client transportation as required using JHSS program vehicle.
• Perform all other duties as assigned/needed.
• Maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications

Education

• Secondary education from Saskatchewan Polytechnic or Community Colleges or University Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or minimum 1 year of practical experience working with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues including homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare

Practical Experience

• Working knowledge and experience with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues, including: homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare system.
• Working with a range of diverse clients, indiscriminate of: age, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, socio-economic status, religious preference, etc.

Other

• First Aid, ASIST, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Food Safe would be considered an asset.
• Valid / Insurable Saskatchewan Driver’s License, insurable to drive clients in JHSS-owned vehicles.
• Cleared Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, completed three (3) months prior to start date.

Capability

• Computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
• Requires flexibility and should be able to work varying shifts
