Job Description:
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Case Management:
- Ensure the safety and security of all Cuthbert House youths through high-level and active supervision.
- Motivate, guide, and encourage the clients in relation to the educational setting.
- Prepare case management files and maintain proper documentation on all clients who attend the education program.
- Maintain accurate records and communications as required (e.g., incident reports, log notes, and case notations).
- Research the academic history of all clients to assist with case planning.
- Supervise and evaluate client educational goals and encourage active participation in their case management plans.
- Provide one-on-one counseling and crisis intervention when necessary.
- Advocate and support the clients as required to ensure their needs are met.
- Provide behavioral support to teachers and clients as required.
2. Community Liaison:
- Supervise the day-to-day classroom operations and collaborate with the classroom teacher(s) to maintain a positive environment that is conducive to non-discriminatory and experiential learning.
- Liaise with community agencies and seek resources to develop a network of care to assist clients.
- Participate and assist the Education Team in the processes of granting credit and writing report cards.
- Participation in class and provide weekly reports on client progress.
- Attend meetings and conferences as required and represent Cuthbert House and The Salvation Army in an appropriate and professional manner.
3. Reporting Requirements:
- Identify the needs of clients on an ongoing basis and report requirements to the Assistant Director or designate.
- Plan, implement and evaluate educational programs in keeping with funding requirements.
- Ensure all Ministry forms are completed in a precise and timely manner.
- Ensure the classroom is adequately supplied.
- Supervise students and/or volunteers as assigned; report progress to the Assistant Director or designate.
- Report all workplace hazards and dangers to supervisor and the Director.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Working environment is typically in the classroom at Turner Fenton Secondary School for half of the day and on site in the office in generally agreeable conditions
- May encounter hostile clients.
- Daily travel to and from school required (50% travel).
- Some scheduled and unscheduled overtime maybe associated with this position.
- May be required to work some evenings and weekends.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of a formal post-secondary/college/university degree program of 3 academic years in Social Work, Corrections and/or Childcare.
- Current First Aid and CPR Training.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Drivers license with access to own vehicle is required. Must provide driver's abstract
- Must be able to provide Protected B clearance
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of prior related experience in working in corrections and/or a school environment.
- Experience working as a Caseworker, preferably in a correctional setting.
- Prior related experience working with Youth is considered an asset.
- Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
- Thorough knowledge of the youth corrections system and processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work with different teams both internal & externally.
- Seeks common ground in navigating challenging issues and constructively manages conflict to create win-win solutions wherever possible.
- Able to proactively recognize potential risks and issues, respond with solutions.
- Effective organizational and time management skills – self-motivated and disciplined self-starter, adaptable
- Fluency in the French is considered an asset.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $26.78 to $33.47 with a maximum of $40.16.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
