Job summary

Makon Projects Ltd., based in Nanaimo, British Columbia, is seeking a carpenter to join our team for a remote project site in Tofino. The successful candidate will construct, install, and repair structures using wood, wood substitutes, and metal, while coordinating with trades and supervising apprentices.

We value safety, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A valid driver’s license is required, with overtime as needed on project timelines.

Qualifications

• First Aid Certification is required or willingness to obtain.
• Demonstrated proactive problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Capable of climbing ladders and lifting at least 50 pounds.
• Willingness to work overtime to meet deadlines.
• Valid Driver’s License is required.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specs.
• Prepare layouts per building codes using measuring tools.
• Measure, cut, shape, join materials including wood and steel.
• Build foundations, install beams, subflooring, walls and roofs.
• Install trim items and hardware; supervise apprentices.
• Prepare cost estimates and ensure safety protocols.

Job description

Based in Nanaimo, B.C., Makon Projects Ltd. is a locally owned full-service general contracting and construction management company providing superior solutions for commercial, institutional, industrial, and multi-residential construction projects on Vancouver Island. We are seeking a Carpenter based in Nanaimo who can work on a remote project site (Tofino). In this role, you will be responsible for constructing, erecting, installing, maintaining, and repairing structures and components made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials. You are expected to be detail-oriented and knowledgeable about different carpentry materials. You must have the ability to work with a team, as well as independently.

Responsibilities & Duties:

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
• Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
• Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
• Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
• Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware
• Supervise apprentices and other construction workers
• Prepare cost estimates for clients as needed
• Ensure safety protocols are followed

• Collaborate with other tradespeople to ensure seamless project execution
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment
• Act as a Stand-in First Aid Attendant when required

Qualifications & Education:

• Journeyperson carpenter ticket an asset
• First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Extensive knowledge of power tools
• Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capabilityCapable of climbing on ladders and carrying at least 50 pounds
• Willingness to work overtime as necessary to meet project deadlines
