Job summary

St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton is seeking a skilled Carpenter to construct, repair and maintain hospital structures across Charlton Campus, King Campus and satellite facilities. The role requires reading drawings, estimating materials, and working with CMMS while following safety standards.

The position supports division of Plant Maintenance Combined, with afternoon/day shifts and a 7.5-hour day, Monday to Friday. Candidates must hold Ontario Carpentry qualifications and a Grade 12 diploma.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education and Ontario Carpentry qualification required.
• Demonstrated knowledge of carpentry tools, equipment, methods and practices.
• Ability to read plans/drawings and work with minimal supervision.
• Experience with CMMS and computers beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Constructs, repairs and maintains hospital structures (partitions, ceilings, casework, doors, locks, windows, floors).
• Reads and/or makes drawings to determine construction procedures.
• Calculates estimates, selects materials and estimates time required to complete jobs.
• Adheres to safety regulations; maintains tools and work areas.
• Maintains inventory and orders supplies for job efficiency.
• Performs drywall installation/repairs and finishing throughout hospital.
• Installs/repairs doors and related hardware; replaces ceiling tiles and grid.
• Receives and closes out work electronically; responds to emergencies as needed.

Position Summary

The Carpenter constructs, repairs and maintains structures throughout the hospital in accordance with the established standards of the trade.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education with an Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Carpenter (Certificate of Qualification 403A)
• Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Carpenter
• 4 years apprenticeship training with a demonstrated knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods and practices of the carpentry trade.
• Ability to work from plans, drawings, verbal instructions, with minimum supervision.
• Numerical ability is needed to estimate materials and to measure.
• Verbal ability is necessary to communicate with workers and other members of hospital staff.
• Ability to evaluate information against measurable criteria and to work within set standards.
• Proficient in the use of computers and electronic devices
• Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

Responsibilities

• Constructs, repairs and maintains structures such as partition walls, ceilings, casework, and other parts of hospital buildings (interior and exterior), including doors, locks, windows, floors, etc.at all campuses including Charlton Ave & King St. sites
• Reads and/or makes drawings to determine procedure of constructing casework, partitions, cabinets, countertops, etc.
• Calculates and gives estimates, choosing materials and estimating time required to complete job.
• Adheres to all safety regulations and ensures tools and work area are maintained to standard.
• Responsible for maintaining inventory, including ordering supplies or materials needed for a specific job.
• Drywall installation/repairs throughout hospital as well as taping and finishing.
• Assists other tradesmen as required.
• Door install/repairs with all door associated hardware, closures, door handles, cores etc.
• Cut, Replace ceiling tiles, and repair and / or install ceiling grid
• Receive work direction and close out work received, electronically.
• Able to work in emergency situations.
• Work with minimum supervision
• Work on all ceiling grids
• Comply with work load measures.
• Performs and carries out other duties and assignments as directed by his/her Supervisor or other Maintenance management staff
