Job summary

Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is seeking a dedicated Caretaker to manage daily operations of the designated facility. You will ensure cleanliness, safety, and security while supervising assigned staff and coordinating with the Building Management Supervisor.

The role supports energy management stewardship and maintenance tasks, with shifts including day, evening and nights; SAP knowledge is an asset as noted in the qualifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years custodial experience with HRCE or three years janitorial experience preferred.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs to perform cleaning duties.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook) is expected.
• Experience with routine and preventative maintenance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and sanitary conditions of the school facility.
• Supervise assigned custodial staff and coordinate daily operations.
• Protect the building and supervise security measures in accordance with policies.
• Report to the Building Management Supervisor and contribute to energy management stewardship.

Job description

The Caretaker contributes to the effective operation of the Operations Services Department within the Halifax Regional Centre for Education and implements the principles of good energy management stewardship. The caretaker will effectively maintain and supervise the daily operations of the Operations Services Department for the designated facility. The position is responsible for the overall cleanliness, maintenance and security of the school facility/building and for supervising assigned staff. Duties will be performed in a professional, proactive and quality manner to ensure a clean, safe, sanitary and attractive appearance of the building(s) for its users. This position reports to the Building Management Supervisor.

The Caretaker position falls under the NSUPE collective agreement. The collective agreement can be accessed by clicking HERE.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or academic equivalent through educational programs such as a Graduated Equivalent Diploma;

• Minimum two years HRCE custodial experience or three years alternate janitorial experience or a combination of both for three years;

• Ability to lift 50lbs to perform a full range of cleaning and janitorial duties;

• Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook);

• Experience completing routine and preventative maintenance;

• Able to work all shift schedules including day, evening and nights;

• Knowledge of SAP considered an asset.
