Job summary

Halifax Regional Centre for Education is seeking a Custodian to help operate the school's facilities. The role involves cleaning, maintenance and ensuring a clean, safe environment for students and staff.

You will follow the policies of the Operations Services Department and report to the Caretaker while taking direction from the Building Management Supervisor. This position is covered under the NSUPE collective agreement.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required or equivalent.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs to perform cleaning duties.
• Basic computer skills for records and reporting.
• Able to work day, evening and night shifts.
• Previous janitorial experience is an asset.

Job description

The Custodian contributes to the effective operation of the Operations Services Department within the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. The custodian maintains a clean, sanitary and attractive appearance of school buildings and facilities. This is accomplished by performing cleaning and maintenance duties in a professional, efficient, proactive and safe manner within the policies and procedures of the Department and the Centre. This position reports to the Caretaker and also takes direction from the Building Management Supervisor.

The Custodian position falls under the NSUPE collective agreement. The collective agreement can be accessed by clicking HERE.

For positions less than 100%: Subject to operational requirements, the Halifax Regional Centre for Education may, at its discretion choose to alter the posted hours of work for the position to accommodate an applicant's request to hold two or more part-time positions at the same time.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or academic equivalent through educational programs such as a General Educational Development (GED);
• Ability to lift 50lbs to perform a full range of cleaning and janitorial duties;
• Basic computer skills;
• Able to work all shift schedules including day, evening and nights;
• Previous janitorial experience an asset.
