Job summary

Interior Health is seeking a Community Health Worker to join the Fernie Health Centre team in Fernie, BC. You will support Community Clients at home, assisting with personal care and daily living while promoting independence and safety.

This permanent part-time role rotates shifts and requires reliable, flexible individuals. The position is based at Fernie Health Centre with opportunities to grow within IH and participate in employer-paid training and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Must have Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Graduate from a recognized Resident Care Aide/Home Support Worker program or equivalent.
  • Registry with BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker required (include registry number).
  • Current valid BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Provide home care and daily living support to clients in their homes.
  • Assist with personal care and daily activities to promote independence.
  • Perform household tasks to maintain a safe home environment.
  • Assist with mobility and transfers; observe changes and report them.
  • Follow training and procedures for delegated tasks.

About the Job

As a Community Health Worker, you will work as part of a dynamic team of Nurses and LPNs who support Community Clients’ independence and ability to stay at home. Community Health Workers provide home support services to clients, by assisting with personal care and daily living, while promoting maximum independence. Community Health Workers are key players in the home health care plan for each client.

Typical duties include:

  • Activities of daily personal care, such as bathing, dressing, grooming and oral hygiene
  • Household duties related to maintaining a safe and healthy environment in the home
  • Meal preparation in accordance with designated plans
  • Assistance with mobility and transfers
  • Observing and reporting changes in client behaviour and condition
  • Performing delegated tasks according with training and procedures
This is a Permanent Part Time (0.73) opportunity.
Shifts of work will be scheduled days and nights rotating from 07:00 to 15:30, 13:30 to 22:00 and 09:00 to 17:30 hours.
