Position Title: Capital Project Engineer

Category/Shift: Salaried Full-Time

Pay Rate: $98,300 - $131,000

Multiple factors, including individual experience, skills, and abilities, will determine the final placement within the pay range.

Physical Location: International Paper Grande Prairie Pulp Mill, 53024A Resources Road, County of Grande Prairie No.1. Directions: Travel 12 kms south of Grande Prairie on Resources Road. For more about the region, visit Work NW Alberta.

Position Summary:

The Capital Project Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, executing, and delivering capital projects in an industrial setting. The role requires technical expertise and project management skills to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards. Candidates from Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or other engineering backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Engineering & Design: Lead or support development of capital projects, prepare engineering documents, interpret and create P&IDs, process flow diagrams, isometrics, schematics, and layout drawings. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and provide technical guidance during project phases.
  • Project Management: Manage scope, schedule, budget, procurement, and risk. Prepare cost estimates, lead reviews, oversee contractor activities, and ensure proper documentation and stakeholder communication.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety policies, standards, and regulations. Incorporate safety and operability considerations into designs and support environmental permits.

The Job You Will Perform:

  • Engineering & Technical Duties: Lead or contribute to design and execution of facility systems, conduct assessments, prepare technical documentation, collaborate across disciplines, and support safety initiatives.
  • Project Management Duties: Oversee project delivery from start to finish, coordinate with stakeholders, lead risk assessments, develop specifications, oversee procurement, and monitor construction and commissioning activities.

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or related).
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in an industrial environment.
  • Eligible for P.Eng. or Registered Engineering Technologist registration.
  • Familiarity with relevant design codes and standards.
  • Proficiency with engineering tools like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SAP.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
