Job summary

Orica invites applications for a Payroll Officer to support Canadian payroll processing on bi-weekly and monthly cycles, based in Sudbury or other Canadian locations. The role requires collaboration with HR, Finance, and business partners to ensure accurate payroll and timely responses to employee inquiries.

This replacement position offers a hybrid schedule with three onsite days per week. You will gain exposure to Dayforce, data integrity practices, and adherence to payroll legislation while

Qualifications

• Experience processing Canadian payroll – mandatory.
• 1–2 years payroll processing experience.
• Experience using the Dayforce payroll system – a strong asset.
• Familiarity with collective agreements and unionized payroll environments – an asset.
• Knowledge of payroll legislation, deductions, and payroll best practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll transactions and wage calculations in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Verify the accuracy of payroll data prior to final submission in Dayforce.
• Review, verify, and manage the flow of payroll-related information between systems and stakeholders, including General Ledger (GL) for Finance, HR, Payroll, and tax interfaces.
• Validate and process employee lifecycle changes, including: New hires and terminations, Promotions and compensation changes, Wage garnishments and child support orders, Tax deduction updates, Relocation expenses, Bonus payments, Other payroll-related transactions.
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of payroll data and employee records.
• Review personnel records to ensure employee information is current and accurately reflected in payroll systems.
• Audit payroll information and investigate discrepancies as required.
• Deliver timely, professional, and high-quality customer service to employees and managers regarding payroll inquiries.
• Utilize the HR ticketing system to respond to and resolve payroll-related requests.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the employee payroll experience.
• Work with a variety of systems, including: Dayforce Payroll, ServiceNow Ticketing System, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook 365.
