Job summary

Summary

This position is accountable for the safety and security of the campus through the coordination of all Campus Safety Dispatch functions and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Supervises student and full-time/part-time staff dispatchers. Coordinates and manages the scheduling of all dispatchers. Provides training for new dispatchers, as well as on-going training for existing dispatchers, including training in all dispatch computer systems including computer aided dispatch, access control, video monitoring, emergency notification systems, and Microsoft Suite. Responsible for the maintenance and timely updates of dispatch procedures manual, training binders, and all other dispatch resources. Present requests/recommendations to the director of Campus Safety for changes and updates to dispatch protocols, equipment, and staffing. Assists/coordinates with the physical security specialist and the access control vendor on solutions to issues with the access control system. Fosters relationships with local law enforcement dispatch centers with respect to emergency calls and dispatching. Performs all of the Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a student dispatcher, including:

  • Manages both emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
  • Dispatch officers to calls for service, and record call information into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System.
  • Monitors alarm systems (Including door, fire, panic, intrusion, card watch and AED alarms), cameras system, weather system, and AppArmor/KnightGuard. Disseminates appropriate information to officers per dispatch protocol.
  • Initiates emergency notifications through the university's notification system.
  • Ensures all information at dispatch center is accurate and current.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position is responsible for hiring/firing/training and conducting performance reviews of all dispatchers. Additionally, this position is responsible for ensuring all dispatch shifts are fully staffed.

Required Skills

This position requires an associate degree (A.A.) or three to five years' related experience (in the criminal justice field) and supervisory experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong communications skills are essential. Familiarity with emergency management and Incident Command Systems (ICS). Must be available and flexible to periodically work weekends, evening, and holidays. Must be a collaborator, able to be flexible and collaborative with a variety of people and personalities. Must be able to manage confidential information.
