Job summary

Vancouver-Island-Mental-Health-Society is seeking a SACW to support guests at the Sobering and Assessment Centre in Campbell River. You will assist with intake and discharge, help maintain a safe, clean environment, and provide basic personal needs and supplies as required.

Reporting to the Program Manager and leadership team, you will observe, document changes, and connect clients with community resources while working collaboratively with staff to ensure compassionate, respectful care.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3–6 months recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid First Aid with CPR-C
  • Valid Food Safe Certificate
  • Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe, clean, well-ordered environment.
  • Screens client behaviour for admittance using intercom system and records discharge.
  • Observes clients and reports/records basic information.
  • Provides food, blankets, hygiene supplies, first aid supplies as required.
  • Provides links to community resources to clients as needed.
  • Prepares light snacks and performs daily housekeeping duties.
  • Re-stocks facility supplies and notifies supervisor when purchases are necessary.
  • Adheres to Society protocols and policies; completes and maintains related records.

Job description

Requirements
  • Minimum of 3-6 months recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;

Skills and Abilities:
  • This job requires a high level of empathy and initiative.
  • Knowledge and understanding of individuals affected by substance use disorders, mental health challenges, and/or homelessness is an asset
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training an asset
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to observe and recognize and report changes in clients.

  • Performs daily housekeeping duties, including laundry
  • Re-stocks facility supplies and notifies supervisor when purchases are necessary.
  • Adheres to the Society’s standards, protocols, and policies
  • Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as daily logs, filing, and communication books
  • Performs other related duties as required
