Job summary

MATRIX is seeking a Camp Maintenance Technician for Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut, on a rotational schedule. This role supports camp facilities in a remote setting, performing hands-on maintenance and coordinating repairs with trades teams.

You'll lead daily maintenance tasks, assist skilled trades, and ensure safety and compliance in a camp environment. The position includes a 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off rotation with fly-in/fly-out logistics.

Qualifications

  • Level 1 First Aid (or equivalent) — 2-day course required.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Facilities Maintenance certificate or equivalent — highly desired.
  • Proficient MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), Office 365.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical (basic), and ventilation systems.
  • Coordinate with site tradespersons for major repairs and ensure issues are tracked to completion.
  • Lead day-to-day maintenance work and oversee a Maintenance Labourer.
  • Complete routine maintenance such as painting, drywall patching, shelving, door hardware, lighting.
  • Respond to resident repair requests quickly and professionally.
  • Complete daily building system inspections and support scheduled PMs.

What You’ll Do

As a Camp Maintenance Technician, you’ll keep camp facilities running smoothly in a remote environment by completing hands‑on maintenance, coordinating repairs, and supporting trades teams when needed. You’ll be organized, safety-focused, and quick to respond—especially during high-importance issues like emergencies and daily system checks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform minor repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical (basic), and ventilation systems
  • Coordinate with site tradespersons for major repairs and ensure issues are tracked to completion
  • Lead day-to-day maintenance work and oversee a Maintenance Labourer to keep tasks moving safely and productively
  • Complete routine maintenance such as: painting, drywall patching, shelving, door hardware (knobs/locks), lighting, and more
  • Respond to resident repair requests quickly and professionally
  • Complete daily building system inspections and support scheduled PMs (daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly)
  • Assist skilled trades (mechanics, electricians, carpenters, plumbers) with general support tasks
  • Coordinate room readiness for incoming residents/guests (prep, access, readiness)
  • Coordinate parking/access and electrical shut-down timing with trades teams
  • Ensure fire safety and security equipment is functional and coordinate access/security support with site staff
  • Respond to emergencies (e.g., floods, fires) and support safe outcomes
  • Help maintain camp compliance with health, fire, safety, and security policies
  • Communicate with guests and manage expectations when work causes disruptions
  • Perform/assist with small appliance repairs and installations (highly desired)
  • Diagnose larger issues and know when to escalation to the correct trade
  • Replace/rebuild common hardware items: batteries? (confirm), door knobs, locks, cabinet/drawer handles
  • Support outdoor/site needs as required: shoveling snow and other physical maintenance tasks
What You Bring (Requirements)
  • Level 1 First Aid (or equivalent) — 2-day course required
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Facilities Maintenance certificate or equivalent — highly desired
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding role and lift safely minimum 50 lbs
  • Proficient computer skills (required): MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), Office 365
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and management abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude and willingness to help your team succeed
Assets (Preferred)
  • Experience working in a remote camp environment
  • Familiarity using a Satellite phone
  • Trades experience (asset)
  • Handy, adaptable, and practical problem-solver
