Job Title: Program Assistant (Grid 21)

Compensation: $27.92 - $29.60
Reports to: Program Manager, The Nest
Shift Details: NA

Job Summary:

The Program Assistant supports the daily operations of Phoenix Centre and ensures that operational quality and licensing standards are always maintained. Works to ensure a safe, well-maintained, and healthy environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor and assess resident behaviours and client movement in and out of the building.
  2. Monitor curfews of residents returning to the Centre and Supportive Housing Programs.
  3. Conduct random (or client-requested) basic wellness checks on clients that may require support, including overdose precaution/response.
  4. Observe and accurately document resident behaviour utilizing concrete, factual descriptions.
  5. Report behaviours to supervisory staff that pose a risk to the resident, other residents, staff, and/or the community.
  6. In accordance with established care plans, assist clients with the development of life skills, healthy daily living, and social activities.
  7. Engage with residents and ensure safety and expectations of the program agreement are being met.
  8. Encourage awareness of interdependence of community members.
  9. Deliver meals to clients experiencing mobility issues/hardship.
  10. Assist new residents with their welcome gift bag sourced from donations.
  11. Debrief with incoming shifts to ensure detailed transfer of information.
  12. Support and promote a safe environment regarding relations with other staff, program participants, and community members.
  13. Complete regular rounds of the facility as scheduled throughout shifts.
  14. Assist the manager in organizing and distributing food and clothing donations.
  15. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Grade 12.
  2. Certificate in Community Social Service or equivalent.
  3. Recent, related experience of one year working with marginalized populations, substance use services, mental health, corrections, etc., or equivalent.
  4. Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is required.
  5. Satisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening form is required.
  6. Satisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form is required.
  7. First Aid 1 and Current CPR certificate is required.

Skills & Knowledge:

  1. Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and database management systems.
  2. Knowledge of and ability to operate standard office equipment.
  3. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
  4. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and creative skills.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to the social sector with a passion for the organization’s mission.

Salary for this role is between $27.92 - $29.60 per hour.
