Job summary

The Housekeeper at Phoenix Society performs heavy to light cleaning duties to ensure that the suites and common areas in the facility are in a clean and orderly condition, working in tandem with other janitorial staff and volunteers.

Key responsibilities include cleaning floors; shampooing rugs; washing walls and windows; removing garbage; laundry; cleaning appliances; and notifying management when any supplies or repairs are required.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of Grade 12.
  • 1 to 3 years of related custodial/ housekeeping experience.
  • WHMIS training is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license is required.
  • Criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is required.
  • Tuberculosis screening and immunization records required.
  • First Aid with CPR required.

Responsibilities

  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming.
  • Strip, seal, finish and polish floors as required.
  • Gather and empty all garbage, recycling and compost bins.
  • Service, clean and supply restrooms.
  • Clean and polish furniture, fixtures and appliances.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions and mirrors.
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines and equipment.
  • Steam-clean and/or shampoo carpets or rugs.
  • Make beds and keep linens in stock as needed.
  • Perform laundry duties.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Maintenance Services


  • Monitorbuilding security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors aftercleaning and checking electrical appliances to ensure that hazards are notcreated

  • Notifymanagers concerning the need for major repairs, minor renovations, or building operating systems service

  • Requisitionsupplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties

  • Maintainand organize cleaning equipment, materials and supplies

  • Performother duties as required


Qualifications


  • Academic:Successful completion of Grade 12

  • 1to 3 years of related experience providing custodial and/or housekeepingservices

  • Relatedpost-secondary and WHMIS training is an asset

  • ValidClass 5 driver’s licence is required

  • Satisfactorycompletion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening isrequired

  • Satisfactorycompletion of Tuberculosis Screening form is required

  • Satisfactorycompletion of Employee Immunization Record form is required
  • FirstAid certification with CPR is required


Skills & Knowledge


  • English:fluent and able to effectively communicate professionally, both orally andwritten

  • Demonstratedexperience in custodial services and/or housekeeping

  • Ability to perform heavy tolight cleaning duties including heavy lifting, climbing stairs, and standingfor extended periods of time

  • Basic computer skills includingMicrosoft Office.

  • Strongorganizational and time management skills with a high attention to detail

  • Stronginterpersonal skills

  • Abilityto work with little supervision and maintain a high level of performance

  • Ability to work independently and contribute to team settings
