Job Summary

Seeking a Buyer to join our Corporate Strategic Sourcing team, based in Toronto Canada. The Buyer is responsible for purchasing raw materials, components, and services to meet the production and customer requirements. This role evaluates and analyzes supplier quotes, negotiates prices, maintains relationships with vendors, and ensures orders are delivered on time.

Responsibilities

  • Source, negotiate, and select vendors that meet the company’s quality, price, and delivery requirements
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with vendors and suppliers
  • Monitor supplier performance in terms of quality, cost, and delivery
  • Ensure timely delivery of items and follow up with vendors on late orders
  • Resolve invoice discrepancies with vendors
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and other important data
  • Prepare reports on purchase activity and supplier performance
  • Execute purchase orders based on approved forecasts and inventory levels.
  • Collaborate with the production and planning teams to forecast material needs based on historical trends, sales data, and seasonal cycles.
  • Monitor inventory balances and adjust purchasing strategies to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Monitor safety stock, lead times, and adjust orders based on fluctuations in demand.
  • Track inbound shipments, manage customs documentation, and ensure timely delivery of goods.
  • Ensure compliance with import/export regulations and internal purchasing policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline. Consider equivalent related college or technical courses, seminars and in-house classroom training
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in purchasing, buying, and/or planning preferred in a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge Microsoft office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word etc.), other PC applications, or mainframe applications
  • Strong working knowledge Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced)
  • Sage experience is a plus
  • Good understanding of purchasing activities and cost reduction
  • Basic understanding of how a manufacturing environment operates
  • Strong personal skills and effective communication (written and oral)
  • Attention to accuracy of work
  • Provides and takes feedback, solves problems without being told to, works well in own organization and with others, and is a constant learner.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of purchasing principles and procedures
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Knowledge of Incoterms, customs regulations, and import compliance documentation
  • Proficient in forecasting, supply planning, and inventory optimization techniques.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
