Job description

Torus Talent is partnering with a large mining client in Northern British Columbia to recruit an experienced Buyer for its Prince George-based procurement team.

This is a long-term contract opportunity supporting major capital and operational purchasing requirements. The position will work closely with internal stakeholders and regional suppliers to ensure materials, equipment and services are sourced effectively and delivered when required.

We are particularly interested in candidates who already understand the Prince George and Northern BC industrial supplier market.

What You'll Be Doing

In this role, you will manage day-to-day procurement activities supporting project and operational requirements. Responsibilities will include:

  • Obtaining competitive quotations and coordinating tendering activities.
  • Negotiating commercial terms, pricing and service expectations with suppliers.
  • Preparing and administering purchase orders.
  • Working closely with internal teams to understand material, equipment and service requirements.
  • Monitoring outstanding orders and following up with suppliers to maintain required delivery schedules.
  • Maintaining accurate purchasing and delivery information within the ERP system.
  • Supporting the resolution of invoice, account and purchasing-related issues.
  • Developing productive relationships with suppliers throughout Prince George and Northern BC.
  • Identifying opportunities to utilize local vendors and strengthen regional supply relationships.
  • Ensuring purchasing activity follows established procurement policies, procedures and approval requirements.
  • Maintaining organized procurement documentation including quotations, tenders and purchase orders.
  • Communicating potential supply, delivery or vendor issues to stakeholders before they impact project activities.
  • Maintaining professional and ethical supplier relationships while representing the organization in the local business community.
What We're Looking For

We are looking for an experienced industrial procurement professional who understands how purchasing works in a fast-moving operational or project environment.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Approximately 7+ years of purchasing, procurement or buying experience within an industrial environment.
  • Experience purchasing materials, equipment and/or services for capital projects, maintenance or operations.
  • Background within mining, forestry, pulp and paper, heavy industrial, oil and gas, pipeline, infrastructure or a comparable industry.
  • Strong supplier negotiation and vendor management capabilities.
  • Experience working with purchase orders, expediting and ERP-based procurement systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial suppliers and service providers within Prince George and the surrounding Northern BC region.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple purchasing requirements simultaneously.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills with both operational stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • An SCMP designation, or progress toward a recognized supply chain/procurement designation, would be considered an asset.
Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to join a major Northern BC capital program while remaining based in Prince George on a Monday-to-Friday schedule. The contract is expected to run through December 2028, providing considerably more stability than a typical project-based procurement assignment. The organization also offers a comprehensive benefits package and participation in a capital projects construction bonus program.

If you have industrial purchasing experience and strong relationships within the Prince George supplier community, we'd be interested in speaking with you.
