Position Overview

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Buyer is responsible for the sourcing, purchasing, and coordination of goods, materials, and services to support ongoing production requirements.

This role requires a detail-oriented and proactive approach to ensure timely procurement, accurate order placement, and effective supplier coordination. The Buyer supports day-to-day purchasing activities while contributing to cost control and continuity of supply, and works closely with internal teams and suppliers to ensure operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Sourcing & Procurement
  • Support sourcing activities for assigned categories, including MRO, freight, indirect services, factory supplies and third-party manufactured products.
  • Prepare and manage RFQs, analyze supplier quotes, and support cost comparisons.
  • Assist in supplier selection and recommend sourcing options to the Purchasing Manager.
  • Negotiate pricing and terms for low-to-medium impact purchases.
  • Issue Purchase Orders for goods, materials, and services, ensuring accuracy in pricing, quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Monitor market trends related to assigned materials (metal components, hardware, coatings, industrial supplies).
  • Act as a point of contact for assigned suppliers.
  • Track On-Time Delivery (OTD) and follow up on late or at-risk orders.
  • Maintain accurate supplier records and documentation.
  • Support onboarding of new suppliers.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve routine delivery or quality issues.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Engineering teams on supplier-related concerns as needed.
Inventory & Risk Management
  • Coordinate with Scheduling and Inventory teams to ensure material availability.
  • Monitor order status and proactively identify potential delays or shortages.
  • Escalate supply risks to the Purchasing Manager.
  • Support inventory optimization initiatives, including adjustments to order quantities and timing.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Production, Engineering, and Operations to support purchasing needs aligned with production schedules.
  • Assist with engineering changes (ECOs), new product introductions, and prototype builds from a procurement standpoint.
Process & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and company standards.
  • Maintain accurate pricing, supplier data, and transaction records in the ERP system.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and cost-saving opportunities.
Reporting Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing reports related to supplier performance, delivery status, and material shortages.
  • Track Purchase Price Variance (PPV) for assigned items.
  • Provide updates on open orders, risks, and supply issues.

Any other duties as required

Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of purchasing experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in garage door manufacturing or related industries (e.g., building materials, metal fabrication, industrial components) is considered a strong asset.
  • Basic negotiation and cost analysis skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in pricing, order accuracy, and lead time tracking.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP/MRP systems (JD Edwards preferred).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is an asset.
