Job summary

Elby Professional Recruitment is representing a Canada-based manufacturing client seeking an experienced Buyer to join their procurement team. The role focuses on supplier management, negotiation, and ensuring reliable supply of materials and services to support production.

The successful candidate will monitor supplier performance, coordinate with engineering and operations, and lead cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining data in ERP/MRP systems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of purchasing or supply chain experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and procurement activities.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills; cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience coordinating domestic and international procurement activities.
  • Experience in ERP/MRP environment; SAP experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Manage procurement activities for assigned suppliers and commodity groups.
  • Issue and manage purchase orders with on-time delivery.
  • Monitor supplier performance and address quality, cost, delivery risks.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and service agreements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, inventory, and quality teams to resolve issues.
  • Expedite critical orders and coordinate recovery plans during disruptions.
  • Maintain purchasing data in ERP/MRP systems.
  • Investigate receiving discrepancies and supplier-related concerns.
  • Support process improvements to enhance purchasing efficiency and reliability.
  • Analyze inventory and purchasing data to identify cost-saving opportunities.

Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Buyer to join their manufacturing team in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a procurement professional who enjoys supplier management, negotiation, problem-solving, and working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure the reliable supply of materials and services. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting production requirements, improving supplier performance, and contributing to purchasing and supply chain initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage procurement activities for assigned suppliers and commodity groups.
  • Issue and manage purchase orders while ensuring timely delivery of materials and services.
  • Monitor supplier performance and proactively address risks related to quality, cost, delivery, and capacity.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while supporting sourcing and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and service agreements with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, inventory, and quality teams to resolve supply-related issues.
  • Expedite critical orders and coordinate recovery plans when supply disruptions occur.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing data within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Investigate and resolve receiving discrepancies, invoice variances, and supplier-related concerns.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance purchasing efficiency and supply reliability.
  • Analyze inventory and purchasing data to identify opportunities for improvement and cost savings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum 3 years of purchasing or supply chain experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and procurement activities.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Experience coordinating domestic and international procurement activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience working within an ERP/MRP environment; SAP experience is considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related field is preferred.
  • Professional designations such as CSCP, SCMP, or related certifications are considered assets.
