We are looking for a Business Unit Controller to help grow our business and contribute to our future.

Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting & Accounting, we’re seeking a dynamic Business Unit Controller to oversee daily accounting operations and ensure the accuracy of financial results. In this role, you’ll manage everything from AR and AP to monthly and quarterly journal entries while serving as the critical link between the corporate finance team and your business unit. Other highlights of the role include:

  • Lead and manage the accounting team, including coaching, training, performance management, recruitment and oversight of team members.
  • Facilitate the completion of month end, quarter end and year end accounting functions, including journal entry preparation, preparation and/or review of general ledger and bank account reconciliations and accrual listings.
  • Develop, prepare and eventually review internal and external financial and management reports as required.
  • Prepare and present quarterly variance analysis related to the assigned business unit. This will include the development, reporting and monitoring of KPI’s.
  • Support the annual audit including the preparation and assisting staff in preparation of assigned working papers and reports ensuring appropriate support, audit trails and review are documented.
  • Establish and ensure the continued operation and improvement of internal control processes. Draft process narratives and update annually and as required.
  • Leverage Workday Financials and Workday Adaptive Planning to provide meaningful tools to support communication of information enabling key business decisions. This will include showcasing its value to business leaders, assisting and supporting in the preparation of reports, dashboards and other tools while encouraging self-service where possible.

What you’ll need:

  • University degree in Business Administration or Commerce focused in Accounting and a minimum of 7 years of related work experience
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent is required
  • Experience within a public company/public accounting firm with exposure to financial statements, tax and audit responsibilities is preferred
  • Ability to constructively coach and supervise staff to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Strong relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting policies, processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and experience with all aspects of financial management, strategic planning, business processes, and accounting and ability to prepare financial and qualitative analysis to support these functions.
  • A good understanding of IFRS and financial management principles and practices.
  • Ability to solve complex problems constructively and effectively communicate results to all individuals involved.
  • Proficiency with computerized accounting and budget software and systems, spreadsheets such as Excel and web-based applications. Specific experience with Workday Financials would be an asset.
  • Ability to analyze financial results considering external and internal drivers, historical and future oriented information and build adequate support and audit trails to support accounting assertions.
