Job description

With the growing needs of more self-serve tools to digest sophisticated data and information, the business insights and analytics team in PI is seeking a Business Intelligence Specialist. In this role, the BI specialist will use Aviva’s technologies to design, develop, and support visually informative and innovative applications, including customized reports that provide tangible business benefits.

In this role, you'll have 3 main mandates:

1. Support business needs through automated and/or self-served solutions via BI tools
2. Assist business insights & analytics team in solving data gaps and analytical needs
3. Provide outstanding data visualization capabilities as data sources increase in complexity over time

What you'll do:

• Craft and develop innovative BI applications
• Build sophisticated queries and reports, using complex variable creation, multiple queries, and other advanced techniques
• Assess data quality making recommendations for workflow management
• Provide informal mentoring/training to junior members of the team
• Perform advanced data cleansing, data analysis, and build visualizations that provide an easy to understand and actionable solution
• Advise on how data visualizations can be best leveraged to provide business value
• Collaborate within the Business Insights and Analytics team, on data requirements such as data structure, data flow, dependencies, and data mapping
• Strong design and documentation of all new and existing process development with a best-in-class outstanding mentality and design principles.
• Proactively work on design, scope, solution, and deployment alongside the business to deliver agile solutions quickly and effectively.

What you'll bring:

• Demonstrated ability (5+ years) in BI Development and Analytics (using SAP Business Objects, Qlik, Tableau, or others)
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Mathematics or Computer Science, or professional experiences in an applicable industry
• Previous experience in designing, developing, and implementing BI dashboards. Experience in SAS and Qlik is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of Data Modeling and Data Warehousing concepts, solid understanding of databases such as Postgres, Salesforce, Hadoop, etc.
• Experience with SAS or SQL, and hands-on Data cleansing and transforming using a wide variety of data sources; structured and unstructured.
• Experience with Cloud Data Warehouses such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, or Google BigQuery is highly desired
• Previous Insurance or Finance industry experience is preferred
• Strong problem solving and solutioning skills are essential
• Excellent communication skills for accurate and detailed documentation as well as collaborator management and communication with the business, scope, and deliveries.
