Job Title : Rebar Business Development / Sales Representative
POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Development / Sales Representative, under the direction of the Branch Manager, is responsible for selling Midvalley Rebar’s products and services. The Business Development / Sales Representative drives sales growth through the identification of new customers and new markets and improving relationships with existing customers to successfully close deals. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and results-driven individual who is adept at self-starting and taking initiative. The candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with customers, understanding their needs, and providing effective solutions.
POSITION FUNCTIONS
Customer Relationship Management :
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential customers. Understand their project requirements and provide personalized service to meet their specific needs.
- Maintain a high level of service to existing customers; managing the customer relationship from contract execution through delivery to after sales service.
- Foster and build business by engaging with new and existing customers; review sales forecasts and upcoming projects and product needs.
- Source and identify new customers and markets, develop sales strategies to penetrate accounts.
- Generate sales through personal contact with repeat customers and drive expansion of product mix where possible.
- Research, identify and quantify new business prospects and build an active, high potential prospect list; revisit dominant accounts on a regular basis to continue to drive sales.
Product & Market Knowledge :
- Possess in-depth knowledge of our rebar products, including specifications, applications, industry standards and project lifecycles. Stay informed about market trends, competition, and industry developments to offer informed recommendations to customers and the Salit team.
- Develop market awareness of industry and report on changes / trends. Identify possible opportunities.
- Identify potential projects by reviewing all requests for tenders and accessing various online platforms for market activity and project tenders (IE Bid Central).
- Evaluate potential projects by reviewing all tender information such as plans, specifications, scope of work, location, etc.
- Prepare accurate and competitive proposals for customers. Work closely with the Estimating, Operations and Project Delivery teams to ensure timely and precise responses to customer inquiries.
- Develop, present, and deliver budget proposals to clients, ensuring that it is tailored to meet their specific requirements.
- Work collaboratively with clients throughout the process to gain a thorough understanding of their goals and provide strategic recommendations that align with their needs.
- Maintain clear and professional communication to address questions, provide updates, and ensure the delivery of a client-focused budget.
Negotiation & Closing :
- Negotiate conditions, prices and scope of work with customers to achieve profitable agreements. Close sales and ensure customer satisfaction and relationship development.
- Solicit and forward Project Awards / LOIs / LOAs to the Branch Manager for approval and acceptance.
- Negotiate and secure profitable work.
Documentation & Reporting :
- Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions and market trends using appropriate reports (i.e. Weekly Sales Report).
- Keep accurate reports with respect to sales and prospects as instructed from time to time.
- Achieve sales quotas and the objectives of employment.
Other :
- Communicate with general contractors and developers regarding project specific information.
- Review and confirm technical specifications and requirements of each project.
- Receive and process all enquiries from customers, contracts and technical departments.
- Managing the solicitation of pricing and engaging in professional negotiations with subcontractors to ensure competitive rates, high-quality work, and alignment with project goals.
- Distribute project information to various departments to meet their processing needs.
- Price and close small and medium Special Projects as well as larger lump sum and unit price Contract Sales projects.
- Maintain a professional appearance, demeanor, and attitude at all times.
- Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education Business or related field; combined with 5+ years’ experience in a related field.
- Proven experience in rebar sales or a related field within the construction industry.
- Candidate must be a proven hunter, capable of identifying new opportunities.
- Driven with a competitive ‘want to win’ attitude.
- Highly self-motivated, with high energy and an engaging level of enthusiasm.
- Strong networking and negotiation skills gained by several years of sales / commercial experience.
- Proven ability to make excellent sales to achieve performance in alignment with goals and objectives.
- Strong understanding of construction processes and materials, with a focus on rebar products and lifecycles.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

- Strong knowledge of sales principles, methods, practices, and techniques.

- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The successful incumbent will be working 40+ hours per week, working at the office and out visiting new and existing customers. The candidate must be able to attend networking events, which may take place outside of regular working hours. On-going use of computers is required. Potential exposure to the elements as well as loud noises. Frequent travel is required. Most travel will be via car, with limited air travel to attend trade shows and industry events.
