What does a Business Development Representative (BDR) do at Johnston Equipment?

This role is meant to attract a driven and aggressive sales representative who thrives on being in front of customers with the goal to provide the most advantageous solutions and make a positive impact on their businesses. You enjoy selling value and stand behind a strong brand, service, and quality product. With a minimum of five years of combined inside sales and outside new business development experience, you develop plans to grow a territory of new business while building relations with internal partners to achieve a high level of recognition in solutions selling and a can-do reputation for customers.

You love what you do as a sales professional and aim to build a long-term career in sales. You are at the mid-point in your career and want to enhance your financial rewards through your business development skills. Your duties include identifying potential business, scheduling meetings and cold calls with new companies and stakeholders, actively promoting Johnston Equipment’s products, demonstrating their functions, and connecting their benefits to customer needs. Your goal is to secure and achieve new enterprise accounts.

The Business Development Representative must be energized, activity-driven, and experienced in managing a large portfolio of small to medium accounts. They are solutions sellers with excellent follow-up skills, leading in closing ratios and top sales performance. They work in tandem with other sales representatives and account managers to ensure a seamless customer experience. Your ultimate goal is to SPIN sell and create new business sales daily within your postal codes. You appreciate the support infrastructure of a larger company to facilitate customer satisfaction.

This position appeals to individuals with proven skills in new account acquisition and problem-solving abilities, using persuasive and negotiation skills to turn capitals into assets. You pride yourself on your sales planning and activity management, reflected in your sales funnel and CRM.

Position Overview

The core function of the BDR is to proactively pursue new customers and opportunities in designated geographic or product areas. The primary interaction with customers is through face-to-face meetings. The BDR is responsible for achieving annual sales targets.

Job Responsibilities
  • Identify and pursue prospective customers.
  • Research sources for potential customers.
  • Acquire new customers in assigned areas.
  • Sell assigned products and aftermarket services.
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships.
  • Make calls and visits to prospects.
  • Lead all sales process aspects, involving other resources as needed.
  • Refer opportunities outside their scope to other sales resources.
  • Ensure seamless account transitions.
  • Assist other sales staff as needed.
  • Prepare sales reports and forecasts.
  • Maintain customer data.
  • Resolve customer issues.
  • Stay updated on market trends and industry matters.

Organizational Alignment
  • Report to the Regional Sales Manager.
