Job Title: Business Development Officer, Full-time, Permanent Position

Location of Position: Based on the office location of the successful candidate

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Rate of Pay: $44,500. / Per annum

Job Description

The Business Development Officer is responsible for facilitating community and business development opportunities through one-on-one entrepreneurial support, the coordination of business and community development programs and projects and promoting the community to expand economic development opportunities. The Business Development Officer will also be responsible for assisting member-owned businesses in improving their marketability and communication as well as helping Qalipu First Nation’s overall marketing and communications team. While expected to work closely with the Communications team, the Tourism Development Officer and Bay FM Radio, this position reports directly to the Manager of Tourism and Community Development.

Responsibilities
  • Working directly with current and emerging Indigenous business owners to provide support and information on both internal and external business support programs and initiati
  • Develop marketing materials including posters, brochures, flyers, business cards, and other materials as required
  • Working to secure unique opportunities for those businesses registered within the Qalipu Business Network
  • Acting as a liaison between local organizations, businesses and individuals and representatives of government, businesses and industry regarding business support programs and other economic development opportunities
  • Managing the Qalipu Business Network website and social media channels Promoting and maintaining membership within the Qalipu Business Network Securing grant funding to expand upon business support programing and traini Develop a newsletter for Experience Qalipu and Qalipu Business Network.
  • Providing consistent communication to all Qalipu member businesses regarding both internal and external opportunities
  • Planning and implementing business support events, such as the Annual Qalipu Business Forum
  • Support community engagement planning and delivery
  • Work with Bay FM to develop and execute communication strategies surrounding Qalipu First Nation events

  • Staying up to date on current Indigenous business funding opportunities and assisting Indigenous businesses with application writing
  • Liaise with industry and government partners to promote local businesses and individuals
  • Working closely with the Tourism and Community Development and Communications team to collaborate on projects and initiatives
  • Represent Qalipu First Nation on various committees, working groups and at trade shows

Qualifications

Education: Diploma or bachelor level degree in business administration, community economic development, marketing, communications, or equivalent.

Experience: The preferred candidate will have 3 years of relevant experience specific to business support or development. They will have experience in community economic development and in working directly with individual business owners. They will have experience in a marketing-related role and as a part of a development team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Working Conditions

Duties will predominantly be met during regular business hours. Some travel and flexibility of work schedule may be required to attend events outside of the office.

Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a private vehicle.

Full-time Employee Benefits
  • Annual Leave: FT employees - Three weeks per year.
  • Statutory and Non-Statutory Holidays: Employees are entitled to 13 days off to cover Statutory and Non-statutory holidays per year.
  • Office Hours: Office hours are from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Thursday, Friday 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
  • Christmas Break: the office closes during the Christmas break, this is an added bonus that employees are entitled to.
  • FT Employee Benefits: Option to enrol in C of C – Employee Benefits Plan.
  • Registered Pension Plan: QFN has a pension plan, FT employees contribute from 4 to 7%, employee contributions are matched by the Band.
  • FT Sick and Family Medical: Full Time Employees are entitled to 12 paid sick and family medical days per year.
  • Under 2 hours Medical Appointment: Employees may attend an appointment of less than 2 hours with no deductions to Sick and Family Medical.
  • Discretionary Bereavement: One day off per year for the death of a relative not included as immediate family, a close friend or neighbour.
  • Volunteer Program: Employees may volunteer outside of the organization up to 21 hours per year.
