Job description

The Business Analyst I have a primary focus of defining root cause, assisting in the elicitation of requirements, assisting in solution design, testing and timely implementation of changes to systems, processes and capabilities. The BA I will also provide project coordination support and ensures focus and continuity for projects in progress, participate in the high level and detailed analysis through collaborative meetings and workshops with business unit leaders and SMEs and coordinate testing activities and provides immediate response to developers when clarity is required.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Participate in the analysis of GEM business processes to maximize efficiency.
  • Translate high level needs and goals into functional specifications for development or application evaluation.
  • Work with internal and external customers to translate business concepts into concrete tools to help increase business productivity.
  • Assist in the creation of training materials, user guides and user manuals for supported IS systems and processes.
  • Execute test cases in accordance with Quality Assurance guidelines to verify the conformance of delivered systems.
  • Using tools provided develop stored procedures to execute automated processes that satisfy business requirements.
  • Create business operational reports that meet the needs of the proposed business solutions.
  • Lead brainstorming workshops with peers and business stakeholders in an effort to work through to an agreed upon solutions.
  • In accordance with of Secure Software Development Life Cycle (SSDLC), document all software requirements and code in the agreed upon repositories.
  • Lead medium sized project to successful completion, by leading discussions and workshops with Stakeholders, SMEs and team members.
  • Provide project updates to project stakeholders and coordinate with them to bring issues and concerns to resolution.
  • Gain an understanding of the business by developing strong relationships with different business units.
  • Provide second level support for end users to resolve escalated system issues
  • through timely evaluation and prompt resolution.
  • Monitor business process automations and provide prompt review and resolution.
  • Review and contribute to the IS knowledge base, adding valuable input to improve IS
  • processes and create efficiencies.
  • Manage the IS requests and issues raised though our IS Mailbox in a timely manner with proper follow-up and response.
  • Balancing rapid response to business requests with the methodical approach needed for thorough data analysis and solution development.
  • Ensuring clear communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with Stakeholders to remain informed and up to speed on business needs and challenges.

  • Positive feedback from team members and stakeholders on the clarity and direction provided in sprint planning and backlog management.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements leading to enhanced team performance.

What skills and experience are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or a related field.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience as a business analyst or in a related role (internships/co-op experience considered an asset).
  • Basic technical knowledge and understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and how business requirements feed into solution design and delivery.
  • Familiarity with web portal functionalities and UX/UI concepts.
  • Proficiency in Atlassian products: Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (English required, French an asset).
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Appian knowledge or similar low-code platforms is considered an asset.
  • Understanding or exposure to Agile or SAFe methodologies.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, and willingness to learn and grow. A team player with the ability to work in a collaborative environment.
