Responsibilities

  • Transports students to and from school per a defined daily schedule.
  • Transports students on non-scheduled trips when required.
  • Ensure student safety from pickup to drop-off; report safety issues.
  • Maintain order on the bus and enforce safety rules.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Perform routine bus maintenance inspections and servicing.
  • Refuel and clean the bus interiors and exteriors daily.
  • End-of-year cleaning of bus interior and exterior.
  • Perform minor emergency repairs as needed.
  • Complete and submit daily reports and trip manifests.
  • Maintain current First Aid qualification and attend safety training.
  • Coordinate with school staff and other employees for student safety.

School Bus Drivers
Temporary/Relief School Bus Drivers
School District 10 (Arrow Lakes)

is seeking temporary school bus drivers available to work on a temporary or relief basis. Temporary employment may lead to regular employment opportunities. Bus Drivers work under the supervision of the Manager of Operations and Transportation who has overall responsibility; however, drivers also work closely with school administration on matters concerning student conduct.

Nature of Position
  • Transports students to and from school according to a pre-defined daily schedule.
  • Transports students on non-scheduled trips when required.
  • Ensures safety of students from pickup to drop off; communicates about student safety issues as needed.
  • Maintains order on the bus and ensures adherence to safety rules while boarding and leaving the bus.
  • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Performs routine maintenance inspections of bus for repairs and regular servicing.
  • Re-fuels bus as required.
  • Cleans the interior of the bus daily. Washes interior and exterior of bus as required.
  • Performs a thorough end-of-school year cleaning of the interior and exterior of the bus.
  • Performs minor emergency repairs.
  • Completes and submits associated reports as required. (i.e.: daily pre-trip inspections)
  • Maintains current First Aid qualification
  • Attends professional learning and safety training sessions.
  • Maintains documentation including trip manifests and annual student bus registration.
  • Ensures student safety and coordinates with school staff.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned by the Manager of Operations and Transportation.
Required Qualifications, Knowledge, And Skills
  • Valid B.C. Class 2 drivers license including a valid air endorsement.
  • Minimum of Grade 12 or its equivalent.
  • A minimum of one (1) year school bus or large passenger vehicle driving experience.
  • Ability to remain alert at all times while driving, and to concentrate without being distracted.
  • Ability to act with authority, and yet remain tactful and courteous.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and write required reports.
  • Annual Drivers Medical Examination.
  • Annual Driver's Abstract.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Basic knowledge of the working operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Courteous and co-operative manner with students, other employees and the general public.

Temporary hours can range from 3 hrs/day up to 27.5 hrs/week.

The wage rate for this position is $33.54/hour as per the Collective Agreement between the Board of School Trustees for School District 10 (Arrow Lakes) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 2450.
