• Ability to lead projects, coordinate with clients and multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and guidance for electrical building design projects.
• Take professional responsibility for electrical engineering work, including reviewing and sealing drawings and other documents.
• Lead and mentor engineers and designers on project teams.
• Lead projects from concept through design and construction.
• Develop and improve Buildings Electrical standards, specifications, design practices, and QA processes.
• Perform design reviews for code compliance and constructability.
• Design electrical systems including power, lighting, controls, fire alarm, life safety, communications, security, and access control.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, consultants, contractors, and utilities.
• Liaise with BC Hydro on project intake and design requirements.
• Prepare drawings, calculations, reports and other design documents.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Buildings Electrical Engineer to help lead and grow our Buildings Electrical capabilities. We are open to candidates at either the intermediate or senior level, as well as both full-time and part-time arrangements. This role is well suited to an engineer who enjoys providing technical leadership, mentoring others, developing standards, and taking professional responsibility for electrical building designs, while remaining involved in project delivery. The level of responsibility will be tailored to the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications. This is a hybrid position, with a minimum of one day per week required in the office. Candidates located in the BC Lower Mainland, or able to regularly work in the Lower Mainland, are preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership and guidance for electrical building design projects.
• Take professional responsibility for electrical engineering work, including reviewing and sealing drawings and other engineering documents as required.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and designers.
• Lead and support projects from concept through design and construction.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Buildings Electrical standards, specifications, design practices, and quality processes.
• Perform technical, constructability, code compliance, and quality reviews.
• Design and oversee the design of building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, controls, fire alarm, life safety, communications, security, and access control.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, consultants, contractors, and utilities.
• Liaise with BC Hydro on project intake, design, servicing, and construction requirements.
• Prepare and review drawings, specifications, calculations, reports, and other design documentation.
• Participate in and lead client and multidisciplinary project coordination meetings.
• Conduct site visits and field reviews as required.
• Support the management of project scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC and able to take professional responsibility for and seal electrical engineering documents in British Columbia. This is a mandatory requirement.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
• Relevant experience designing and reviewing electrical systems for residential, commercial, industrial, or other building projects.
• Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, BC Building Code, Vancouver Building By-Law, and applicable municipal requirements. Knowledge of applicable U.S. electrical codes and standards would be considered an asset.
• Strong knowledge of building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, controls, fire alarm, life safety, communications, security, and access control.
• Experience providing technical guidance, design review, and quality oversight.
• Experience coordinating with clients, architects, consultants, contractors, and utilities.
• Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
• Experience with unit substations and BC Hydro coordination would be considered an asset.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license and ability to travel within British Columbia as required.

Salary Range: $45.00 - $65.00 per hour
