  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in building systems operations, maintenance, servicing and/or repair.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and ventilation systems and related operation schedules.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code, National Plumbing Codes, NFPA and hydrants/sprinklers regulations.
  • Workplace safety knowledge including WHMIS and health & safety regulations.

Job description

JOB OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Supervisor, Building Technical Services, you will be responsible for the completion of assigned preventative and corrective maintenance duties and emergency repairs on various types of mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) or plumbing systems, and of any other tasks related to building maintenance. You will also be responsible for performing work in accordance with established processes and practices and for complying with internal and external requirements including but not limited to building codes, environmental, health and safety, and fire protection regulations and legislation.


You will liaise and coordinate with a range of internal and external parties, including property managers, project managers, National Capital Commission (NCC) staff, clients/occupants, senior officials, and service providers to identify, assess and define solutions to technical issues and to implement corrective actions to resolve them.


ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Successful completion of a secondary school diploma or an employer approved alternative.


EXPERIENCE

Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the following areas:



  • Installation, operation, maintenance, servicing, and/or repair of building systems within residential, institutional, commercial and/or industrial portfolios.

  • Coordination with contractors and subcontractors.


KNOWLEDGE


  • Of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems, including operation and maintenance schedules.

  • Of the practices, procedures and safety requirements for the operation of pumps, hot water boilers, incinerators, refrigeration compressors, absorption units, induction, convection and radiation units, steam pressure reduction stations, auxiliary distribution systems, autoclaves, piping, switches, panel boards, and wiring devices.

  • Of the Canadian Electrical Code, National Plumbing Codes, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Hydrants/Sprinklers Regulations.

  • Of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) legislation and health and safety regulations.


ABILITIES


  • To analyze, assess, diagnose and perform quality hands-on work on various types building systems.

  • To provide sound advice to clients and service providers related to building systems.

  • To work in heritage buildings with high end specialized finishes.

  • To interpret mechanical, electrical and architectural information, data, manuals and drawings.

ASSETS

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT


  • Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.

  • Linguistic profile: Bilingual BBB.

  • Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 1 Sussex Drive (Rideau Hall), Ottawa, Ontario.

  • The person selected for this position is expected to always work on site.
