Today is the day to boost your career! Pinchin is seeking a Building Science Technologist to join our Building Science and Sustainability team in our St. John’s, NL office.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Building Science Technologist will be involved in the fast-paced world of Baseline Property Condition Assessments conducting site visits and inspections along with deficiency reporting and costing analysis.
A Day in the life of a Building Science Technologist at Pinchin:
- Review and complete non-invasive assessments of existing buildings and structures (roof assemblies, exterior cladding assemblies, balcony assemblies, fenestrations and parking garage structures) to determine remedial work options
- Carry out all necessary quantity takeoffs and measurements over the course of a project
- Conduct Baseline Property Condition Assessments and Reserve Fun Studies in accordance with the ASTM standards and best construction practices at various client sites
- Capital planning as it relates to Baseline Property Condition Assessments and Reserve Fund Studies
- Prepare written reports of findings, summarizing, collating and interpreting the results of field data and creating costing spreadsheets
- Financial involvement and coordination with support of the project manager
- Maintain QA/QC protocols
- Maintain health and safety protocols as well as quality control within the group
- Perform any other job-related duties that may be assigned
- Assist in conducting invasive building inspections and testing (ex. Roof cut tests, water / leak tests, etc.)
- Provide support in the development of designs and specifications for restoration projects
- Carry out construction reviews to ensure quality standards and design requirements are achieved
What You Bring To The Pinchin Team
- College Diploma in Building Science, Architectural Technology / Science, Construction Technology or Civil Engineering Technology. Bachelor of Science or Applied Science is preferred
- Experience with building construction or maintenance preferred
- Knowledge of building mechanical/electrical systems and building envelope assemblies preferred
- Experience with Building Condition Assessments in accordance with the “ASTM Designation: E 2018 – 24 Standard Guide for Property Condition Assessments: Baseline Property Condition Assessment Process" will be considered an asset
- Must be able to read and edit technical specifications, drawings and reports
- Experience writing technical reports is preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to safely transport and carry folding ladder and properly use, hand tools and PPE is required
- Valid driver’s license, insurance & personal vehicle required (work related travel expenses will be compensated)
- Availability to travel within Newfoundland as well as possibility within Atlantic Canada.
