Job summary

RioCan in Oakville, Ontario, is seeking a Maintenance Technician to oversee day‑to‑day site maintenance and safe operation for tenants, customers, contractors, and employees. Shifts include Tue–Fri with varied hours and on‑call responses; basic repairs and preventive maintenance are required.

The role requires a G level driver’s license, relevant maintenance background, and safe work practices. Competitive hourly pay is provided with a bonus program eligibility.

Qualifications

  • G Level Driver’s License required.
  • Relevant work experience or education background (Building Environmental Systems or related programs).
  • Shift details: Tue–Fri 1:30pm–9:30pm, Sat 10:30am–6:30pm; on‑call emergencies.
  • Retail/commercial property maintenance experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of equipment and power tools.
  • Work safely per OH&S guidelines and regulations.
  • Experience with minor repairs, painting, drywall, plumbing.
  • Safe work practices and construction standards familiarity.
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Team player.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Adaptable and flexible.
  • Certification in Working from Heights and Scissor Lift required.

Responsibilities

  • General maintenance and repairs on site (plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting).
  • Housekeeping of mechanical and service rooms.
  • Communicate work procedures set by management.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the site(s) to ensure clean and safe environment for tenants, customers, contractors and employees.

Shift details: Tuesday to Friday; Shifts: 1:30pm to 9:30pm or 8am to 4pm / Saturday 10:30am to 6:30pm / Rotation Shifts might apply; available for on-call emergencies

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Liaise with Tenants and Contractors and maintain relations.
  • Conduct daily property check.
  • Perform predictive and preventative maintenance on building structural elements and finishes, building equipment, HVAC systems and others as directed.
  • Monitor building automation system.
  • Adjust HVAC equipment and setpoints.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance (belts, filters, lubrication, cleaning).
  • Respond to tenant HVAC related calls.
  • Ensure life safety systems are operating efficiently.
  • Monitor energy consumption.
  • Identify and rectify any general maintenance issues.
  • System monitoring of mechanical equipment.
  • System monitoring of fire life and safety equipment.
  • Coordinate contractor access and ensure all deficiencies are rectified.
  • Advise supervisor on any building inefficiencies.
  • Liaise with internal and external contacts for prompt and professional investigation and resolution to concerns.
  • Respond to emergency after-hour calls and participate in on-call services as required.
  • Assist with seasonal building requirements.
  • Basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and miscellaneous repairs on site.
  • Communicate and execute all work procedures set out by management.
  • Housekeeping of all mechanical and service rooms.
  • Other duties / projects as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • G Level Driver’s License.
  • Relevant work experience or education background (Building Environmental Systems or any other related industry programs).
  • Shift details: Tuesday to Friday; Shifts: 1:30pm to 9:30pm or 8am to 4pm / Saturday 10:30am to 6:30pm / Rotation Shifts might apply; available for on-call emergencies.
  • Previous maintenance experience preferably gained in a retail / commercial property environment.
  • Sound knowledge of equipment and power tools.
  • Execute all work in a safe and professional manner and in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Legislation guidelines and other applicable regulations.
  • Experience performing minor repairs, painting, drywall and plumbing.
  • Familiarity with safe work practices and construction standards.
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule all work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Team player.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Adaptable and flexible.
  • Certification in Working from Heights and Scissor Lift Certification.

$26.82 - $36.87 an hour

The base salary range for this role reflects compensation for candidates at varying levels of experience and proficiency. The salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant competencies, including skills, experience, education, and our teams’ requirements.

The listed salary range does not include bonus and other total rewards. This role is eligible for participation in the company’s bonus program.
