Job summary

Skyline Group of Companies in Barrie, Ontario, is seeking a Building Operator to perform hands-on maintenance in our residential properties. The role requires multitasking across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and life-safety systems while keeping residents comfortable and safe.

You will coordinate with contractors, participate in after-hours on-call rotations, and contribute to a positive resident experience through clear communication and responsive service.

Qualifications

• Hands-on building operations and maintenance experience, including knowledge of HVAC, fire protection, life safety, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and security systems.
• Strong customer service, communication, and relationship-building skills with residents, contractors, and team members.
• Self-motivated, organized, able to prioritize work, meet deadlines, solve problems, and work independently.
• Post-secondary education in an applicable trade or equivalent experience, plus 3+ years of building operations.
• Proficiency with computers, email, Microsoft Office, and smartphone technology; commitment to health and safety and WHMIS.
• Ability to learn new systems and software to track, delegate, prioritize and organize requests.

Responsibilities

• Complete preventative and corrective maintenance in occupied and vacant units, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and turnover support.
• Inspect building systems, common areas, vacant units, mechanical and electrical rooms, and exterior spaces for deficiencies and compliance.
• Coordinate with contractors, monitor service work, support project scopes, and ensure work is completed safely and to standards.
• Support a positive resident experience through strong communication, follow-up on concerns, and service excellence.
• Participate in after-hours on-call rotation and respond to site emergencies, snow removal, and other property needs.

We are seeking driven, professional & energetic candidates to join our Residential Operations team for the position Building Operator located at our properties located in Barrie, Ontario.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Complete preventative, and corrective maintenance in occupied and vacant residential units, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, repairs, and turnover support.


• Inspect building systems, common areas, vacant units, mechanical and electrical rooms, and exterior spaces to identify deficiencies and ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.


• Coordinate with contractors and trades, monitor service work, support project scopes, and help ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards.


• Support a positive resident experience by maintaining strong communication, following up on concerns, and upholding Skyline’s commitment to service excellence.


• Participate in after‑hours on‑call rotation, respond to site emergencies, and support snow removal, salting, notices, move‑ins, move‑outs, and other property needs as required.

What You Bring

• Hands‑on building operations and maintenance experience, including knowledge of HVAC, fire protection, life safety, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and security systems, with the ability to perform basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, locksmith, and general maintenance tasks with care and attention to detail.


• Strong customer service, communication, and relationship‑building skills, with a professional approach to working with residents, contractors, and team members.


• A self‑motivated, organized approach with the ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, solve problems, and work independently with minimal supervision.


• Post‑secondary education in an applicable trade or equivalent experience, plus at least three years of relevant building operations experience.


• Comfort using computers, email, Microsoft Office, and smart phone technology, along with a commitment to Health & Safety, WHMIS, and company procedures.


• Ability to learn new systems and software’s used to track, delegate, prioritize and organize requests as they come in.
