Job summary

The City of Vancouver is seeking a Building Hazardous Materials Technician to perform technical field work related to hazardous materials in city-owned facilities. This role involves conducting assessments, preparing reports, and ensuring safety compliance while collaborating with various stakeholders. The position offers a hybrid work model and is part of the CUPE 15 Non Pks union, with a competitive hourly wage.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school; health and safety courses preferred.
  • Experience in hazardous materials identification and removal.
  • Current WorkSafeBC Level 5 Asbestos Certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments and prepare reports on hazardous materials.
  • Maintain databases and provide training to staff.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards during removal procedures.

Skills

Knowledge of sampling techniques
Understanding of safety regulations
Ability to establish working relationships
Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of high school; health and safety courses are preferred.
  • Graduation from an Institute of Technology in Occupational Health and Safety or related training is an asset.
  • Experience in hazardous building materials identification, encapsulation, and removal, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Current WorkSafeBC Level 5 Asbestos Certification.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of sampling, surveying, and removal techniques for hazardous materials.
  • Understanding of occupational hazards and safety regulations.
  • Ability to establish good working relationships and work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database navigation.

The position offers a hybrid work model and is part of the CUPE 15 Non Pks union. The salary range is $37.2 to $43.78 per hour, with a start date in June 2025. Applications close on June 1, 2025.
