Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Building Envelope Drafter to join our dynamic team.

The Senior Drafter provides shop and fabrication drawings with technical details, specific dimensions, and use concepts, practices, and procedures that’re within the industry standards. They are responsible for providing visual plans and guidelines that adhere to established specifications and standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Develops complex technical drawings and plans
• Prepare complete and detailed drawings for comprehensive construction projects.
• Produce design and construction drawings for projects per applicable codes and regulations.
• Oversee or create BIM design from concept.
• Read and interpret Architectural/Structural drawings and other technical documentation related to the project and apply it in shop & fabrication drawings.
• Gathers requirements and understands design specifications
• Conducts detailed field visits for accurate data collection
• Performs advanced calculations for dimensions and materials
• Reviews and modifies designs to ensure accuracy
• Handle more complex and high-level drafting tasks, contributing to the preparation of design layouts, schematics, elevations, and sections for various projects
• Ensures all drawings comply with industry standards
• Manages documentation for design changes and updates
• Prepares comprehensive documentation and reports
• Contributes to project scheduling and resource allocation
• Assist and provide guidance to Junior Drafters and Drafters
• Review work produced by junior drafters and give constructive feedback
• Carry out other duties/projects as required

Job Competencies

• Extensive knowledge of drafting software and construction techniques
• Significant working knowledge of Drafting/design software: AutoCAD.
• Extensive skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Bluebeam and/or similar software.
• Solid understanding of BIM, 3D and architectural concepts.
• Ensuring all drawings meet quality and compliance standards
• Ability to create sketches by hand.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Ability to identify and resolve complex design issues
• Skills in managing multiple projects and ensuring timely completion
• Willingness and ability to adapt to new construction technology, procedures, or methods related to the industry/field.
• Solid interpersonal skills.
• Strong work ethic with respect to being responsible, confident, and motivated to complete a project.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

Required:

• AT, EDDT or other successful completion of Architectural Diploma in post-secondary education
• 8+ years’ experience required in the industry.
• Additional drafting/design software such as Sketchup & Revit.

Preferred:

• Field experience in the industry and architectural drafting experience
• Valid Driver’s License, the use of a vehicle, and ability to travel

Working Conditions/Demands

• Work is performed primarily in office
• Working long hours using a computer or other equipment
• Occasional travel to attend meetings as required
• Lifting up to 20 – 30 lbs.
