Job summary

BC Non-Profit Housing Association is seeking a Building Energy Specialist to provide energy analysis, audits, and project coordination for non-profit housing across British Columbia. You will guide retrofit projects and assist with funding applications from provincial, federal, and utility programs.

This permanent full-time role sits in the Asset Management team, reporting to the Building Energy Manager. A related post-secondary background and hands-on energy efficiency experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Master's degree, SEMAC, or BERM certification is an asset, as is project management coursework.

YOUR NEW ROLE

As a Building Energy Specialist, you will be focused on technical services and project coordination related to energy analysis and building retrofits. You will support non-profit housing societies by providing coaching services to guide them through retrofit projects, including funding applications from Provincial sources (BC Housing, CleanBC), utility providers (BC Hydro and FortisBC), Federal programs, and other funding opportunities. The Building Energy Specialist will also provide support through BCNPHA services to advance and sustain the non-profit housing sector. This role involves working directly with non-profit housing societies to perform energy audits, collect and analyze building energy data, and assist with project planning and implementation. The Energy Specialist will be part of a team working to deliver a program that supports non-profit housing societies undertaking deep energy retrofits.

This position is part of the Asset Management team, reporting to the Building Energy Manager.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Benchmarking Non-Profit Buildings:

• Work with Building Energy Analyst and non-profit housing societies to facilitate BCNPHA's benchmarking and data collection processes.
• Analyze data for business case development, retrofit estimates and potential project feasibility.

Conduct Energy Audits:

• Travel to sites or virtually collect building system information, identify energy conversation measures, and write reports.
• Perform outreach and site visit coordination across the province - arrange appointments, accommodation, travel, and report expenses.

Coach non-profits through building retrofit projects:

• Coordinate retrofit projects for non-profit societies, working with staff and board, consultants, contractors, utility companies, and various funding agencies.
• Provide technical support to non-profit housing providers to identify, plan, and implement energy efficiency retrofits, particularly potential low-carbon electrification (LCE) projects. This includes supporting business case development for energy efficiency and emissions reduction projects.

Data Management:

• Assist in identifying and pursuing opportunities to enrich BCNPHA databases with relevant data.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Education:

• Post-secondary education in fields such as energy management, sustainability, planning, science, or engineering.
• A Master's degree, SEMAC, or BERM certification is an asset, as is project management coursework.

Experience:

• Minimum 1 year of relevant professional experience.
• Knowledge of energy analysis, conservation measures, building construction, and energy systems required.
• Experience in energy benchmarking, project coaching, and working with non-profits is an asset.

Skills:

• Familiarity with building control systems, low-carbon electrification, and rebate programs (Federal/BC).
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), data presentation, and writing energy reports and funding applications.
• Strong verbal and written skills for clear updates and feedback to internal and external stakeholders.
• Analytical skills to synthesize information and propose solutions, adaptability and resourcefulness in changing environments.
• Identifies ways to improve process and quality, developing alternative approaches and ideas.

The salary range for this position is $53,600 to $67,000, and it will be determined based on the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications.
