Job summary

Qualifications

  • Diploma/Degree in Building Systems Technology or related field; Journeyperson designation in Instrumentation, Refrigeration, Gasfitter A would be an asset.
  • Professional accreditation in related area such as Engineering or Building Sciences would be an asset.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of job-related experience required (10-15 years without the education).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee shutdown procedures for planned and emergency activities across campus facilities.
  • Provide operational feedback to internal and external stakeholders on building systems.
  • Meet with design consultants and contractors to discuss operating conditions of systems and buildings.
  • Provide back-up for UCC Operator during adverse conditions and monitor buildings and systems.
  • Assist day-to-day operations of the UCC Operator and guide issue resolution.
  • Participate in standby shifts to respond to emergencies.

Job Description

Location - This role is in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, South Campus, and Campus Saint-Jean, Edmonton.

Using extensive knowledge based on a combination of education and many years of experience, this position is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving operational problems involving key infrastructure systems, commissioning and overseeing the installation of newly designed HVAC and other related mechanical, electronic and pneumatic systems that are used throughout campus, engaging with institutional stakeholders when operational issues arise, and advising maintenance workers and technicians responsible for maintaining the University's air temperature, humidity and ventilation in all teaching and research areas, In a energy efficient and sustainable manner.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee operational shutdown procedures for the University by reviewing and authorizing all planned and emergency shutdowns required to accommodate construction, maintenance, and emergency repair activities.
  • Provide operational feedback to internal and external institutional stakeholders regarding the operational intricacies of the various building and systems located across our campus.
  • Meet with external design consultants and contractors to provide operational Information regarding existing system and building operating conditions.
  • Provide back-up for the Unified Communication Center (UCC) Operator under adverse operating conditions by assisting with the control and monitoring of buildings and systems.
  • Actively assists in the day to day operating activities of the UCC Operator by resolving complex building and system operating issues, and providing direction on possible solutions.
  • Participate in standby shifts on a rotating basis to respond to emergencies.
Qualifications
  • Diploma/Degree in Building Systems Technology or related field (or) Journeyperson designation in Instrumentation, Refrigeration, Gasfitter A.
  • Professional accreditation in a related area such as Engineering or Building Sciences would be an asset.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' prior job-related experience is required In order to properly perform the duties of this position (10-15 years without desired education).
