Job summary

HDR is seeking a Bridge Engineer in Ontario to join a multidisciplinary team. You will apply structural analysis and detailed design for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other civil structures, guiding junior staff and coordinating with CAD/BIM professionals.

Requires a PE license and at least 3 years of bridge design experience. Strong communication and project-management skills will help deliver projects on time and within budget in a collaborative, employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• Requires PE/Licensed Engineer (P.E. or P.Eng).
• Minimum 3 years of bridge design experience including calculations and plan development.
• Ability to prepare engineering reports, condition assessments, and technical proposals.
• Experience with project management for small to medium projects is preferred.
• Active involvement in professional or industry associations is encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Apply structural analysis and detailed design of bridges and related structures.
• Prepare design documentation under guidance of senior engineers and review EIT work.
• Support QA/QC through independent design checks.
• Collaborate with CAD/BIM staff for drawing production and data sharing.
• Contribute to construction specifications and tender documentation.
• Manage project tasks to meet schedule, budget, and quality targets.
• Participate in client meetings to discuss design issues and coordination.
• Assist in proposal preparation for bridge design projects.

HDR is looking for an Bridge Engineer to join our team of professionals in Ontario. The primary responsibilities include:

• Applying structural analysis and detailed design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other civil structures.
• Perform calculations and prepare design documentation under the guidance of senior engineers; review the work of EITs as appropriate.
• Support quality control activities by participating in independent reviews and checks of structural designs.
• Collaborate with CAD and BIM staff to support drawing production and provide necessary design information.
• Contribute to the preparation of construction specifications and tender documentation as part of a project team.
• Assist in managing project tasks or work packages to help ensure delivery on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
• Participate in meetings with clients to present work, discuss design issues, and support project coordination efforts under the direction of senior staff.
• Support the proposal preparation process for bridge design projects as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
• A minimum of 3 years experience in bridge design including design calculations, plan development, specification development, and cost estimating.
• Experience with the analysis and design of new bridges and civil structures, and rehabilitation of existing structures.
• Ability to prepare comprehensive engineering reports, condition assessment reports, design reports, presentations, technical proposals and specifications.
• Experience in project management for small to medium sized projects.
• Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand.

Required Qualifications

Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.

• Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
• Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bentley OpenBridge Designer and OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation, AutoCAD, MathCAD, LARSA, Prestress Concrete Design
• Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software
• Experience managing junior staff
• Excellent communication skills and working in a team environment
